Two of my bats are SSH, I chopped the knob off. Really can't tell the difference in pick up its a small amount of cane really.
Im 6 ft 4 and had a long blade but wasn't happy with the length so chopped the bottom inch off to make it a standard length blade.

SSH & LB obviously helps if you want a shorter handle for reasons mentioned such as handle hitting forearm but don't want to reduce length of the bat as a whole.  The LB makes up for the length lost from having a SSH.

After years of sh I've just picked up a ssh and had a bat made  close to ssh dimensions. From what I read a ssh will be about an inch shorter than a sh but it's usually 3/4in from the handle and a quarter from the blade. It's made a huge difference to how the bat seems to fit in my stance. I've not yet batted with them but they definitely feel more suited to me. Harrow dimensions are about the same but the blade is also a few mm difference. I was tempted by some recent forum offerings in Harrow but in the end couldn't bring myself to do it.

I use super short handles, just a preference due to a bruised wrist from the top part of the handle - and I really do prefer them

When i have used Harrow bats mainly for the thinner handle but when batting I  couldn't get use to looking at the 4 inch wide blade.
Much prefer a standard  4 1/4 wide blade with an inch shorter handle.

interesting concept - i do like holding the bat very low on the handle, but hate the fact that i have to crouch a lot to get the bat tap.

Alternatively you could always order a new bat from one of the sponsors 1/2 oz lighter with a SSH.  Any excuse for a new bat right?

I am short and I hate the handle hitting my wrist so I just go Harrow size and put up with losing the 3mm in width for the better balance and increased weight around the sweet spot (I only ever use the middle anyway hmmm)... save a few sheets too.

But as pointed out earlier, each to their own!

better yet to ruin an existing bat by chopping off the handle, and then use that as an excuse to buy a new one.

This is unfortunately a common problem for short batsmen. I also had to deal with the toe hitting the ground when I drove. Then, I used custom size 6 bats and they worked out very nicely for me. You can put a lot of wood in the blade.

I think anything over 2.8ish they start to pick-up heavily, but stay around 2.8 and they seem perfectly well balanced.
However, I'm not sure about chopping the handle, it's best to get a bat that is made as SSH.

John @Red Ink Cricket has just made me a SSH at 2'8'5 in his Sirius shape and it picks up like an absolute dream. I could have gone at least an ounce heavier based on my perception of the pick up. it would have been a beast of a bat.
I'm not convinced hoping the handle will make a massive difference, especially if you already hold the bat low down. If the next person to chop the knob end off a handle could weigh it then it might be informative relative to its impact on balance.

John @redink has just made me a SSH at 2'8'5 in his Sirius shape and it picks up like an absolute dream. I could have gone at least an ounce heavier based on my perception of the pick up. it would have been a beast of a bat.

I chopped off the top yesterday. The removed piece was 0.5 oz. Balance was more or less the same, but I will add a bit of lead tape at the top.

All this begs the question - why on earth does Sangakkara do it ? He's over 6 ft !

Im 6ft 4 and do it with standard blade. I don't place my hands there and gets in the way when i sweep/ reverse.
And the adjustment isn't that much. Hands stay in the same place regardless of handle length so chop it off.
Minimal batting tapping otherwise the back aches the next day.

20 years later I can still hear the coach telling me i had too much bottom hand in the shot... as i get older and watch the various styles of batting its obvious to me that there is more bottom hand in play these days than ever before. If you hold the bat at the bottom i'm guessing it doesn't matter how tall you are you don't need the top bit of the handle.... I guess thats were the ssh and long blade combo come in.
