A Bit of a Brain Stretcher
« on: February 09, 2015, 11:49:11 AM »

Okay, with The World Cup around the corner, we've all been picking our best XIs and the like.  Here's a slightly different problem - pick your best One Day International XI with the stipulation that you can only select ONE player per country!

NAturally.  If it takes off we can do Test and All time teams.

Interesting concept this - makes you think about some tricky dilemmas...

Suspect most people are thinking about their four front line bowlers first up...

Some interesting selections here.

Musing on the balance between bat and ball - do people go for AB or Steyn as their Yarpie of choice, for Mitch 1 or 2 or DAvey WArner of the Aussies and is it SAnga or Malinga to represent the Sirils?

He's been in bad form for quite a while now

Yeah but, lets be honest, even in terrible form he's still better than most associate batsmen. Thats from an England fan who despises him!

Or even could have had Rohit, or Rahane!

I forgot about the Indians....... Whoops.

On that case I'd swap out taylor for rahane, and stick sanga behind the stumps.

This is a tough call not least because Amla is also a quality performer - really good thread.

Gayle   WI
Warner   Aus
Williamson   NZ
Kohli   Ind
Ten Dascarte   Hol
Taylor (wk)   Zim
Shakib Al Hasan   Bang
Afridi   Pak
Malinga   SL
Steyn   SA
Anderson   Eng local club side in Lancashire

next problem is who to captain... Afridi has done it once or twice, but may retire before the tournament. Gayle, no he will fall asleep during the team talk, Kholi? humm - I will go with Anderson because we need something unexpected. Batting looks a little soft, but I deliberately picked the bowlers first (with an eye on Warner opening the batting)
