Stuart broad!!
« on: February 20, 2015, 10:05:55 PM »

Right. This may go down his bowling and attitude on the pitch route. But not really what I want

What i want to discuss is his batting!!!!

He bottled it this morning. Looked like a scared school kid playing for the firsts. Backing away every ball.

Contrast this too a few years back when he got a ton against pakistan (albeit could have been fixed). He could clearly bat at one point.

We all know the cause to. Mitchell Johnston in the ashes. He did a turn him. And then having his face re arranged by the sri lankan's won't have helped.

So. Does anyone think his batting will ever return to a few years ago? Or is he too mentally gone.  And best propong up an order at ten and xi with Jimmy??

Be interesting to hear people's views on his innings against nz too

He's got the Tattars... loved that nick name

He's gone. He's been done over and hit in the face.. The guy is a coward now. Drop him completely.

There is the potential to return, but highly unlikely. He needs to work on it one hell of a lot

I think he wants to be a big hitter as well, which won't help.

He's just low on confidence, like most of the team.

He's got bad knees

He's cocky

He's arrogant

He's petulant

He's scared of the ball

He's down on pace

He's starting to age

Get rid and bring on someone who at least wants to be there, wants to put their heart and sole into playing.

@ProCricketer1982, You can call him a coward when you have been hit in the face through your helmet by a bowler who bowls at 85mph and then gone back out to face Southee. Till then, I think it's a little unfair.

He's a professional cricketer, I am not. I would not pretend I could face these guys. Howver, I'm not a professional cricketer paid to play. So yes, I'd expect more from him than to back away

Calling Broad a coward is harsh From experience i know how difficult it is to face fast bowling once you have been hospitalized by a fast bowler i would imagine its the same regardless of what standard you play.

any military on here will know it's hard to go back out int eh field after you've been shot at or a mate gets hit right next to you.. still gotta do it though because you're a professional.

I've mentioned this far too many times. So it will be the last on here.

December 2013 our quick pinned me with a bouncer and I Ruptured my spleen. I was apparently 2hrs from dying due to blood loss when admitted to hospital.

Despite my spleen not healing till August 2014. I was still opening the batting for our 1sts on April 2014. I was still in pain. My spleen was still repairing itself.

Did I fear the ball? A little, but i merely bought a stretton chest guard and got on with it. And after posting 50 in my first game, didnt fear the ball again.
Was it my most prolific season? No, still scored 500 runs. With 3 50s. And thankfully not once did my skipper or team mates suggest I looked scared off the ball.

So yeah I agree with procricket1982, he's a tad cowardly. As after 15 months since the mitch attack and a good 8/9 months since he took one to the face. He's still scared. Despite this being his profession and 7 days a week access to overcome it.

Yup
He looks scared(no shame), questions need to be asked about his ability to play and fulfil his contract.
Some have the ability to carry on playing after being hit, some don't

As a cricket fan, and someone who would give both my nuts to play for england, he is a disgrace. A real lack of fight or passion, far too complacent,  and his performances seem to be getting worse. I was physicaly angry watching him try to bat yesterday, it was disgusting

huh??

What's fear??

Broad has a helmet, pads, gloves, box, chest guard, arm guard and a bat and runs away form 85mph balls.. Now if we were doing that it's fine because we are crap, not pro's and not able to train each and every day (oh and not paid mega bucks to play)... He is a pro, so I expect him to stand there and front up.

by running away he is being a coward. Smiley down there with his spleen would not be in the slightest cowardice to run from teh ball.. he is not a pro, he does not train (I hope :) ) each and every day and isn't paid mega bucks to play cricket.. so yeah, I expect him to back away and think 'sod this, not worth getting injured'.. Broad I expect to stand there and take it.
