huh??

What's fear??

Fear is being scared but doing it all the same.

Cowardice is not doing it at all.

I think Broad should be no more lauded for backing away than any other cricketer. I think it is more pronounced as he is trying to whack the ball too. If he was just to stand there and duck, he wouldn't be 'backing away' as much. What he does is try to hit it inside out, making sure he gets inside the line which makes it more obvious he is getting out the way first then hitting it second.

His main role is to bowl, if he gets injured, he can't do his job. No different to amateurs. In fact, there are some amateurs who have less excuse due to the nature of the job and their sick pay entitlements.

He is not 'doing it anyway' though is he?? He's runnign away from the ball! That's 'not doing it at all' in cricket terms.

Sick pay?? not sure hwo much you would get if you went sick but I'm sure he would be very very very well off should say he break an arm etc.. They are insured upto the hilt.. let alone their wages, deals etc etc

If, for instance, he broke a rib. He couldn't play for a couple of months, he'd lose his match fees and performance bonuses.

If I broke a rib, I could still sit at my desk all day. Even if I couldn't, I get 6 months before I lose any money due to sickness.

I don't watch the cricket that often, but I remember Peter Such 'running' away from Merv Hughes. Broad at least tries to hit the ball.

He is not the only one to lose confidence, especially after being hit in the face. A lot wouldn't come back from that at all.

You are acting as though a cricket ball in the face is nothing. Frankly, getting a ruptured spleen is an unusual accident, but many of us have been hit by quicks to the body. Very few have taken one on the nose.

If he was a coward, he wouldn't have faced a quick bowler in an international arena again. He would simply have said "No". He is firstly a bowler (and was picked to do that role). That he could bat as well was a benefit. He was not their to be the all rounder.

Fear, which is what he is experiencing, is fully understandable and much harder to get over. You come across as having no understanding of psychology, and I'm sure that is not the case. Just because you try and face up to your fears doesn't stop them from existing or having an effect. Whilst we like to think of broad as dumb, he clearly has far more of an imagination  than we'd like to credit him with, so he is struggling with the bat.

Whether you are a professional sportsman or someone else doing something dangerous professionally, fear is real and very hard to overcome, no matter how hard you try. Do you honestly think he has done nothing to try and overcome it?

His bowling doesn't warrant a place IMO so coupled with his batting he is not worthy of his place.....

Errrr... he's a bowler chaps? Remember he's in the team to do that, bowl. If he's shot as a batsman, ok drop him further down the order, but he's not a batsman anyway! Backing away to quicks isn't exactly something new for him either, he's been getting out like that for years.
