Bats! (B&S and Salix)
« on: February 25, 2015, 12:05:39 AM »

So I've went a little crazy recently, but haven't really been actively posting, so figured I'd do a little catching up!

First up, the B&S Supreme, it has 33-35mm edges and weighs in at 2lb 11.8oz with no concaving. The pick up is nice, you can feel the weight towards the bottom, but it is well balanced nonetheless. Got this from eBay, and was kind of a mistake. The bat wasn't quite at the reserve, so I put in an offer, expecting to be outbid as there were still like 10 minutes left. Ended up winning this bat! (Wasn't really a bargain, but was a decent price) Response is ridiculous, reminds me of the first Tendulkar B&S bat I bought, although a touch lighter! I am actually quite like the older Supreme stickers, there's some nice texturing on them and I think they look pretty classy. Blade width is about 104-105mm at the shoulder, and 105-106mm at the toe. Has 11 grains, with the heartwood strip having a wider grain. Personally really like the colour contrast between the sapwood and the heartwood on this bat, seems just the right balance for me. :)

Next up, we have a beautiful Salix weighing in s 2lb 10.5oz. The face is pretty clean, with 6 pretty evenly spaced grains and some uneven heartwood on the RH inside edge. The width is about 109-110mm (naughty naughty) and edges are around 32-33mm. The spine is quite a decent size, and there is the usual gentle concave which Salix normally use. The pick up and balance on the bat is good, not a particularly light pick up, but not heavy at all. The finishing on the bat was just beautiful, you have to love the small touches like the blending of the toe as it meets the edge, the textured stickers, the smooth edge and spine profiles and the way the spine runs and blends into the toe. And, of course, the mirror like sheen of the finishing. It really does set the benchmark for finishing. :) These don't come cheap though, I think that the Performance grade from Salix now retails at £300! You're much better off purchasing a B&S LE/GP274/5 Star. I would only really consider buying a Salix if I was going all out for an AJK/Finite!

All 3 bats are things of beauty, stickers aside that CA looks huge & nice profiled.

Nice bats all of them. Like the Hump on the B& S and that dude doing reviews from SQ sports reviewed a CA 3000  for IJC last year and it was reportedly absolutely brilliant.

Jokes aside very impressed with your bats and like that you take the time to share your collection with us.

I remember that B&S. Can't recall who purchased it, but the humpback profile was very tasty.

Hi jake,

Even though I found it just a teeny bit bottom heavy, I'm seriously regretting selling it now! It certain was a goer!

The profile on that B&S :| hot damn.

Would the same profile, but 2"8 be possible? Obviously would have to have slightly smaller edges/spine.
