Pittard Palm Gloves
« on: March 01, 2015, 01:36:53 PM »

I was wondering if I could get all you guys and gals thoughts on Pittard palm gloves, I've always had the natural leather ones and I've heard good things about Pittards. Any reviews/suggestions which to go for, I was looking at the Newbery Kudos, H4L NV and the Vyper ones.

I've never been a huge fan of pittards to be honest mate.

I've got two pairs of SS pro issue gloves with a variation of pittards that I haven't used yet, but I usually go for "normal" leather ahead of pittards

I find I have sweat issues in pittards and lose grip on the bat.

So tend to avoid them.

Sounds like the anti-sweat properties are not all there cracked up to be. I tend to find my gloves are fine but towards the end of the season you get sweat patches developing on the lower palms.

Love the feel of pittards, never had any sweat issues with them and wouldn't wear anything else

I've found my hands have sweated inside the gloves with pittards leather, but grip on the bat is fine

Without pittards palms, I can't hold onto the bat
I'm gonna try Uzi gloves this season which Asad assures me is Pittards, and see how my hands feel in those

Hi @Northern monkey what I have noticed with both types, the convential leather palms tend to get crusty over time with constant sweating and drying. But with the pittards I haven't had that issue as yet (been using them for two seasons now, going onto a third). I have three gloves with pittards, Salix Pod Players, Affinity Ayrtek gloves, and Chase FLC gloves. The Salix has the best protection but the heaviest while the chase is the lightest. All offer superior protection, more than enough for any cricketer at any level. Hope this helps.

I used the Affinity last season
I just found that my hands got very hot inside ?

I've used slazenger elites in the past which had pittards, but that was oop north where it was a little cooler during the summer, and didn't really notice the sweaty hands.

My sons Salix gloves are very nice, he rates them highly

1. SS Whiteouts - £30 online - snug fit - sweat just as much as regular non-pittard gloves - maybe they dry out quicker
2. Newbery SPS - £60 - super smart and excellent protection - maybe too good - possibly a tad bulky for my needs - softer of the 2 pittards

I'm coming rapidly to the conclusion I spent too much money on bats when I should have spent more on gloves as they take a much greater beating and have a far shorter lifespan in my ownership than the bats. I think I need some kind off roll-on or talcum in the gloves, though I can see that going horribly wrong sprinkling the handle with talc through the pepper pot holes in the pittards.

I hear this 'anti-sweat' thing quite often but seemingly this is a misunderstanding of what Pittards are designed for. No glove can stop your hands from sweating, it's the ventilation which will help dry the sweat faster. Pittards are designed not to absorb sweat (to stop the leather drying up and becoming "crusty"), and therefore the gloves need to have exceptional ventilation in order to disperse/ dry the sweat another way.

I would suggest that if your hands sweat alot then don't get pittards and live with that fact that you most likely will go through a lot of gloves.

A bit off topic but does anyone know of a product that stops gloves going hard and crusty.

Good points, @EaglesCC . Any models that you think have good ventilation?

Huge Newbery softs fan and have been for a while. They may be initially expensive but they last very well my Newbery sps pads must be 5/6 years old now and I have 3 pairs of gloves I rotate.

If you have small hands the SS gloves are great for around £30, I need OS mens and I can't get these in SS.

But overall I'm a fan and won't buy gloves without pittards and go for the ones that are smooth with little Dots.
