It does sound like a combination of issues... storage, had floor, hard ball and if your like me it takes me until the last game of the season to get my timing right so the first net is never a pure display of well executed technique

I would go with everyone else recommendations and either pic up an older bat of eBay or go for an MSR, you never know, it might allow you to try a bat shape that you wouldn't naturally go for.

i do think a cheap net bat may be the way forward for me even though i never liked the idea of practicing with a different bat to the one i use in matches
And they all seem to break with a crack through the toe or edge

If you do get a bat get one similar in weight and pickup to the one you use in matches then there shouldn't be that much difference when practicing.

Or as many on here would advocate just buy lots of different bats  - you can never have enough  :)

Rubbish balls aren't just for indoors. I have made one oppo change the ball as I deemed it a lump of concrete and likely to break several bats. If you can't really have a word with the oppo, ie. not replacement ball, then you take your net bat out.

This cheap ball stuff amazes me. I've played at two clubs in 26 years and only even seen old Kookaburra match balls. If anyone has tried to use their own they have immediately been told to pit it away and share the club balls. Must be a UK thing.

Would it also have something to do with the dryness of the bats you are using?

These bigger volume per weight bats that us mere mortals can normally buy, there has to be a compromise somewhere and that could be with the moisture content.

Try a butterfly with as little as possible heartwood in it as a experiment and see how you get on.
(plus take the advice of avoiding smashing yorkers and hitting rocks as already mentioned).
