Im new to posting on here so i hope this is in the right place for it,
Every year i seem to get the same problem in the nets my bat breaks, i know its recommended to get a net bat but i struggle to justify having 2 bats to myself due to bat prices.
Am i just unlucky that my last 4 bats have all broken in my first netting session of the season? is it the way i store them in the off season(in a room with constant cool temperature but isnt damp)? or is it just simply indoor netting?

As SLC says - I picked up a really cheap slazenger sports direct special for about �10 (in a sale, reduced from the lofty highs of �20 if I remember).

It's a bit lighter than I normally use with a bit higher middle, but I don't care about it so it can get bashed around, borrowed etc.

re you bats breaking - cant really help I afraid. Cheap balls could defo be a factor though. do the club not have loads of old matchballs that can be used?

If it is a bat that is used one season, stored, then breaks the first net of the new season it is most likely how you store it or the balls that are used.

How do they break? Is it a piece of toe coming off, a split down the blade, the splice coming apart?

Depending on the breakage may give you further information as to why they break.

Yes you are unlucky to break a bat every year Ben. If its any help i never take my match bat to nets
Because has Pro cricketer has already said you cannot trust the quality of the balls used also you are more likely to toe end a yorker. Even if your bat doesn't break you can still cause damage.

Also hitting a yorker to an extent in nets won't help. If you think the hard surface has no 'give' thus if you trap a yorker to some extent with your bat the damage is all going to be transferred to your bat rather than the hard floor. Just a thought.

i do think a cheap net bat may be the way forward for me even though i never liked the idea of practicing with a different bat to the one i use in matches
And they all seem to break with a crack through the toe or edge

Which bats have you been using ?

Cheap quality balls , aggressive shot making during nets can cause bat breakage. Do you guys have full pitch length in nets or shorter length which will lead to more pace during bowling ?

I splashed out on a �25 MSR as a net bat.
I'm not risking one of my decent sticks against �3 sports direct balls on a hard floor.

You say you can't jutify a net bat due to the price, but if it saves having to buy a new bat every season surely a low range MSR/sports direct special/cheap Kashmir thing is a wise investment?

A Slazenger was G2 willow cant remember the details, 2 Warrior's (local brand in Wakefield)both were very good bats but opted for a change after they both broke after a season, most recent a GN Powerbow gen X players select

Go on eBay MSR, you can buy a good performing butterfly for 30quid in any weight.
