Bat Size
« on: March 05, 2015, 09:00:02 PM »

Hi guys,

Always ummed and arred on bat size for me; I'm only 5ft 8, so sort of fall in that middle ground between harrow and short handle; I always feel a harrow may not pack enough wood into the middle, but a short handle, the handle digs into my wrist etc etc.

 - Just wanting advice before I buy anything now! Did get a lovely custom made Hunts and that went like an absolute rocket (although now split up the grain - too much netting I think)! I had this made an inch shorter, so effectively was an expensive harrow!

I love the idea of being able to get a top quality bat for £150, instead of £250! (or £400 if we go Kippax or GM etc.)

Thanks guys

A harrow is slightly narrower, so technically theres more wood concentrated closer to the middle!

Check the B&S Section on here, I think they had some harrow size bats in more manly weights.

SSH? Or just take a saw to the top of the handle?

I may guillotine the handle - just like the price of junior bats! Haha!

I'll have a gander thanks; did spot a Kook Menace on ebay, an Ultra model (one of their many models...) and it was possibly the best I've seen from a manufacturer to date!!

You could get another custom hunts in G1 from Jake at vitas for about 165. You could have it made to Ssh specs to make sure you get the weight you want. I just did this but with another maker. It's the best thing I have done. I'm looking at a Harrow for a cheap net bat but they don't come in the weights I want.

Hi Ollie, when did you get the bat? Fairly recently if i recall? Please send it back and either myself or Tony will repair it for you, free of charge.

The thing with a Harrow is the width of the blade, it is narrower. You may want to look at the GM Womens range (not the best name but just peel the sticker off the top of the handle and no-one will know) or small mens from Kookaburra and GN. I have options from all 3 brands so feel free to get in contact.

Alternatively if you want another Hunts we can do that too, indeed i have a few really nice top end Harrows in stock around 2'7-2'9 too :)

Hi Jake,

The bat was fantastic and think it's just bad luck. Cannot complain with the service you guys offer down there! I'll Get you some photos of the crack (small at the moment but feels a bit terminal.

What's on offer in small mens and what's the prices? I do love the stickers on the lucky 7 gn. And what're the heavy harrows? A narrower bat may help the ball miss the edge ;)

Thanks mate

Ollie

Also. Do like the Newbury 7 and that I guess counts as a small mens! Not seen any of the GM women's stuff mind. Remember trying that pad on and it fitting beaut... How tall are these women haha!!

Well, today took a trip to a company local to me who had a mega sale on (30% off all 2015 bats for starters, 50% off all 2014 bats!) and after picking up a selection of both harrow and SH I chose SH. I went 2014 as you certainly got a lot more bang for buck, and it came down to a choice of 4 bats (although 1 was 2015, it was a lower RRP so came out cheap!) - 1) GM Zona LE £250 2) GM Octane LE  £250, 3) Ton Legacy Players £175 or 4) Krakatoa SPS £175.  I came home with a Newbery Krakatoa SPS SH 2lb 10. It's got the most beautiful grain I've ever seen for certain!

Very good addition to the collection, although will be double gripped as the handle is rather thin! Can't add the photos as I can't even get them below 128KB! Will look into it and try post them later on!

Glad you found something you like!
What did you think to the GM Original LEs?  The ones I have seen for the last couple of years I've been really disappointed by, and have found the standard of Originals better in most cases, and even some 909s which I would grade higher than the LEs, though I know that looks aren't everything!

Sounds like a good trip! For the pics Use photobucket, no need to mess with the images then.

PC Sports in Yeadon

They've got a website but don't think the 2014 bats are online. I'd say the best 2015 bat was a kahuna twister? Or the Ton. They had a kahuna 1250 and the grain was just terrible!!
