My newaffinty custom/persona
« on: March 13, 2015, 11:59:35 AM »

Arrived this morning is a bat of hidden identity.

Weighs 2.14 and a bit.

Is wearing affinity DROID stickers(refurb stickers)

Has a mid to high middle with a different take on a duckbill/platypus bill toe.

any ideas??

Edit: answer here

A few have it correctly

Despite a sticker saying that it is refurbed/repaired not made by affinity. It actually is made by affinity.

I contacted Marcus beggining off few R.e a persona. And gave him my specs.

2.13-2.15(but I wouldn't except anything under 2.13!!)
Decent bow
Mid to high middle.
Large spine
Duckbill toe
Round handle.

He rang me to discuss, said he wouldn't want to use a lightweight persona cleft as it was a bat heavier than 2.12(pretty much what b3 tell me when I try to buy a crown, no point).

But for my wanted weight he could get me a bat that would perform as well, but last longer than a persona normally would.

He then asked if I liked or despised heartwood. For which I said good either way.

This is what arrived.

VERDICT

Service: good, bear in mind I contacted Marcus 2 days before his trip to America, I wasn't expecting a quick turn around(didn't want it rushed either) so the 4 week wait wasn't bad, he explained this before he went, and phoned me for a chat on return.
And despite no complaints regarding, he still gave me a full length bat cover for free as a sorry.
So top service.

Shape: shape is good, close to what I imagined, just a tad more concaving than expected, but as I didn't mention any concaving in my specs to him. It's not something I will grumble about to much.

Pick up: weight is 2.14 5. It picks up very well, similar to my other bats in 2.13, so good.

Performance: currently sat knocking it in, Ping is fantastic, very very pingy, matches my b3 multi storey so a far. And isn't far off some of my old favourite bats. Impressed.

Finish: finishing is good, stickers are immense, love there detail on them. Great design and embossing.

Why droid you ask? I think the Star Wars fan in me was just attracted to the, instantly!

I have many bats, probably too many, but I like to try and see what people offer, and I believe that way I can give an honest opinion. If I've tried all the custom makers surely I should be more educated to give a thumbs up to them, than someone who has just tried the one company.

Anyway below is a pic showing how I rate the custom bat makers on overall experience best left going down in ratings to the right.(although non are bad, I sold the two I didn't rate).

(not blank bat is an rk, stickers fell of one very wet Wednesday night)

A good review though is always down to if you return for more, and as is shown I will if impressed, only time will tell if Marcus gets a second run at a bat.
