Sports Direct GN Matrix
« on: March 15, 2015, 04:12:44 PM »

Now what do we think to this which I found on the off chance in Sports Direct today?.

Was initially sceptical when I saw these appear online especially for the price listed but to be honest they look pretty good in the flesh (no fake grain sheet from what I can see / natural finish on the back) and they are the only retailer in the UK to sell this model albeit at a low grade.

Worth a punt, on the website price of course?..

How much are they online? They do click and collect now, so order a couple, choose the one you want and "return" the other.

Id be careful doing that as often returns often only get in store credit, not cash back.

Just realised it's actually £74 when you change it to SH.  Could be a plank but for that price maybe worth a go for a back up etc.. This was the only one they had in store and the Matrix sticker had cracked and there were a few indents on the spine, so this particular one was disappointing cosmetically close up. This worries me about buying blind online, but guess it could be returned if it was in this condition.

Just needed a ball to test the response from it, maybe in need of another grip as the handle felt thin even for me :)

Didn't relalize th the GN Matrix bat was available in The UK for season 2015 until I saw the photo thought it was only available to purchase in Australia.
Also went to Sports Direct this morning to take a look at one but they had none in store which made me think models and supply will be limited until UK season 2016.
Also no mention of the Matrix  in the GN 2015 Catolugue.

Last year sports direct had a model exclusive to them that wasn't in the catalogue. The venom I think. The matrix must be this years exclusive.

I've taken a punt on one, so let's see what turns up in a few days time.  Will get some pics up as and when I get it.  :)

I tweeted Gray Nics a while back about the Matrix and they were non committal on whether it would ever be coming to the full UK range. Strange as it's listed as 'low profile' compared to the high profile F18 which is obviously in the full range for this season so you'd think this would be a decent choice for the UK market. That being said it may well be in next seasons range.  I know the Fusion is supposedly coming back in Aus next season so it'd be good to see that in there as well.

Taken delivery of the bat today, and must say I'm pretty damn impressed. There's a slight knot on the left hand side of the blade but the response is extremely good and for the price paid I'm not going to complain.. It weirdly looks like a different shape to the one I found in store but I'm honestly more happier with the one I received.  :)

Also must say the speed of delivery from Sports Direct has been excellent (ordered Sunday night, arrived this afternoon).

The grains under the face sheet look nice  I counted 9 personally i would take the face sheet  off and also give  the face a coat of linseed oil prior to use.
Hope it serves you well.

Looks like a very good bat mate, personally never had a bad GN and I had a couple of lower end models to net with suck as the powerbow strike and force that were below £100 and both played well just a bit hard at first but came on Ok in the end sold to team mates in the 2nd team and there both still using them no problems.

Like the stickers and looks like it has a duck bill toe which seems popular at the moment.

Thanks @SOULMAN1012 , I also have a Gen X strike from last season and started to net with the F18 I picked up from Vitas earlier in the year which also feels good. Both of these were £100 or less and this Matrix was £75 so very happy with all 3 of them for the coming season.

How good are sports direct in other parts of the country!? The one near me is massive and with a decent sized cricket section so I always wander in there hoping to find a hidden gem and find 30 identical kashmir willow slazengers with 15mm edges.

I did once find a two-seasons-out-of-date GM Flare 707 for £30 in a Decathlon though, and so I am destined to waste hours of my life in awful sports shop convinced there's something fantastic hidden away waiting to be discovered.

@Akewstick They really are hit and miss but that's what you get from them not being a cricket only retailer I guess. In all honesty you're probably best buying blind online like I've done as the one I received was in way way better condition than the initial one I found in store.  If you're not happy with it you can always send it back as well. The ones in store usually carry damage to the backs especially from being picked up and thrown back in the racks in my experience.
