Custom Bat Idea????
« on: March 31, 2015, 04:33:13 AM »

Thinking to get a custom cricket bat made to the specs of the second bat on the shelf in this video, but with 35mm+ edges, 30mm shoulder and toe, and spine height 65mm+

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8XUZmm_lO4

Any Thoughts? Do you guys think it will pick up well? Do you guys think it can be made under 2.11?

For something that big and in your weight range you might need to contact b3 cricket for a crown cleft.

How do you know what the specs are of the second bat on the shelf? That video is from 2012

Not quite sure a 1271 has 30mm edges plus a near 28mm shoulder and same size toe which comes in at 2-15.5oz at a normal 400 cleft.

Sorry edit it had a 26mm shoulder but bigger edges

To get a bat with those dimensions in that weight you'd need a low density cleft, heavy concaving, the bat to be drilled up the middle and a miracle. Or as has been suggested, a size 6 might do it...

One suggestion use balsa wood. I'm not sure if any one picked up on it during the World Cup final but Ian smith said he spoke to a New Zealand bat maker and he made a big bat out of balsa wood which lasted only about 40 balls but apparently the ball pinged of the bat with very little effort. It was used in a game which the guy recorded a 50 !!

I agree. My batting philosophy is "I'm here for a fun time not a long time"
