I'm not a massive fan of the pickup on the Tour

Having tapped up a mates when they were brand new I loved it shape and response wise, but over time (and a few hits with his) I've decided it might be a pinger but it doesn't feel right for me. That said, he has one chevron grip and no extra binding - yuck!
If I got an extra half later of binding on the handle and a ripple grip the pickup might be okay and if happily use it, but if you only use one grip it picks up like a railway sleeper in my opinion!

Pick up is very personal thing. Does a Tour/Hulk pick up light? no but I have used low & mid-low middle bats all my life and find no issue with picking up my Hulk. It Pings from very close to the Toe to slightly above the butterfly mark, I hit a straight six last year on the up (was not intented to go all the way but just clear infield) and thought gee i middled that but when i looked down I could see the seam mark right on the stain now I don't know if it was butterfly or the shape but overall it has been one of the most forgiving bat that I have used expect 1 or 2 others.

I have a Gold Sovereign from Aldred that has the biggest middle I have ever used. Honestly it goes from about 2 inches above the toe all the way to the stickers.

Where does the sweetspot end? the butterfly under the stickers or the one on the side to the right of the bat?

I think in general the more wood down the line of the hands (ie. spine) the better the pickup. Also the higher up the blade the middle is the better the pickup. So a bat with big edges, small flat spine and low middle will never pickup well. If you move the middle up, ie. an Amplus, you get wide coverage and decent pickup

That is not entirely true. Look at all the duckbills in the other wc thread. All bats shown in the thread have mid-low middle and the guys used them swung it like a twig facing 140+ kph on bouncy pitches.
I think the shape of the toe has massive role to play in pickup.

Proves my point, it's been duckbilled to improve pickup, which is just another way of concaving the bat ie. chopping the spine element out of the toe and lower section of the bat. If we are however looking at spineless non concaved big edged bats like the Tour then my point is still valid.

True. All I meant was a light pickup is possible with low middle, thick edges and average spine height.

Extra grips
Added binding
Lead tape on the handle
Sand some of the wood away near the toe to make a duckbill
All of the above at once

You either like the pick up or you don't (i do)

All the things above, other than removing wood from the toe are largely a placebo.

Placebo or not, it makes your bat handle look cool!  ;)
