fun early season training activities
« on: April 06, 2015, 08:04:51 PM »

we are having a few outdoor training sessions leading up to the season. our new nets are currently being built  and should be ready for May.

any tips on some fun/ practice activities we can do probably be 6/10 of us at training most weeks.

want to try and keep it light hearted and fun rather then serious

Split the group into 2 lines of 3/4 players, facing each other (larger numbers don't really work tbh), 10 feet apart

Stand in 'slip catching position'.

Use 2 balls, try to keep them both off the ground.

It gets tricky when you have 2 balls coming at you (it will happen!), so participants need to be wary not to throw at 'head-height'

Good fun for a 10 minute session opener.  :)

Me and mate tend to stick a stump in the ground and stand either side of it about 20 yards away and take turns trying to hit it. The other one fields the throw and returns fire quickly. You could do it in pairs but need to spread out so groups don't hit each other. Or you could do it in 4s and work on fielding in pairs. Make a competition and have quarter finals and so on. Other than that the only other fun one I really like is to set up two stumps like a goal and have someone hit it trying to score a 'goal' with a fielder trying to catch or stop the ball like a gully or point fielder would. Again you can divide the group up.

There doesn't seem to be many videos around with suggestions, I may be looking in the wrong place.
