Got my new SS Master 7000 yesterday, very pleased with it.
8 fairly straight and even grains, couple of specks towards the toe.
Edge size - 41mm
Toe thickness - 24mm
Spine height - 63mm
Blade width - 107mm
Weight (un oiled, no toe guard etc) - 2lb 8.2
Moisture (pre-oiling) measured in 2 places using protimeter - circa 7.5%
Pretty full profile with minimal concaving, nice pick up and great looking stickers. Came with one of the new SS camouflage bat bags and 3 extra grips.
One thing that seems to be different on mine is that the TON brand marks aren't coloured in with black sharpie - which I quite like as they look more subtle and won't run when the bat is oiled or gets wet. I can always colour in myself if I like.
Taps up pretty well, but apparently it was softly pressed and so will probably need quite a bit of knocking in - maybe that is why the edges are big despite the weight?
Round handle with slight oval at the bottom, checked and no sign of any nails :-)
I decided to get a new bat after seeing everyone else's new kit over the past couple of months and feeling a bit left out. I contacted several makers in the forum, and some overseas suppliers to see what that had for my budget. Thanks to those who took the time to get back to me especially John at Red Ink who was very helpful - several didn't respond though.
In the end I went with the guys at cricmart.in – they were really responsive and came up with a number of great deals including this one. I ordered on Monday evening and received Friday. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again and a great overseas alternative to OLS for SS kit, but of course as others have pointed out previously you don't get to feel the bat before you buy, and if you do have any after sales issues they may be harder to resolve.
