Handle not straight!
« on: April 28, 2015, 10:04:04 PM »

The only good bat I've ever owned, a G1 H4L I got for 160 quid and I'll never be able to afford again, the handle broke, I sent it off to a batmakers to get the handle replaced (not H4L, but I won't name the bat maker at the moment) and it's come back wonky! I could see it just looking down the spine, it's not slightly off centre, it's bent!

Took a couple of picture with the edge flat on a table with a bottle cap under the top of the handle to demonstrate.

What do people think? Is this as big a deal as I think it is, with a game of feather edges and millimeter differences in bats being obsessed over, I can't believe this isn't going to affect my game.

In the first pic the bottle cap is actually stopping the shoulder of the bat touching the table.

Edit to add: and obviously if there's something I can do to fix it....

Have you contacted the batmaker who repaired it? If you're not happy with it see if they will redo it. It will forever be in your mind when you're batting.
I had a puma rehandled and it has what looks like a small wedge along one side which I'm guessing is too keep the new handle straight.

I'd go back to the batmaker in question and ask him to spot what's wrong with it!
As for a re-re-handle I think I read on here that doing it too many times can have a negative effect on the bat.

Hrm, I'll tell the bat maker but if I don't want to get it cut out and replaced again, all they can do is say sorry, and that doesn't help my bat much.

Really I'm hoping for a secret but foolproof bat handle straightening method I can perform with no skill or training, I'd appreciate if someone knows of one.

I couldn't help but LOL when I saw the funny bent of the handle.

That's a shoddy job, I believe batmaker very well knew the handle wasn't straight and still went ahead with it.

My goodness. I've had an astonishingly poor refurb done by a very reputable bat maker too. Take it back mate.

Yep, they have just offered me another free rehandle. I don't really want to risk getting it done again but it's it's actually going to throw my game off having it not straight... I need to.

What do people actually think about it?

"It'll always be in your mind when you bat" - I can put it out out of my mind no problem, I can't decide if it'll actually affect me being able to middle shots

Take up the offer of the re-handle. You won't be able to use the bat with any confidence otherwise.

I really don't think confidence will be an issue, if I take it out and prove I can still middle shots and it doesn't feel really weird, I think I'll be able to just forget about it.

Have you got any experience with a bat rehandled multiple times?

Yes it should be fine, you just have to use the bat!

Pardon?

You need to be happy with the bat to use it properly.
I can't speak for Buzz, but I think he meant, get it rehandled, it won't affect performance.
