This is what I think has happened:
The new handle was to big (to wide to deep or  to long) for the bats vee rather than reshape the  the handle and the vee to allow the handle to become a perfect fit the handle has been forced in creating what you have there.
If the handle is over tight the bat could split on impact with the ball around the shoulders
 area.
Ideally the bat needs to be rehandled by a company that makes their own handles as they will be able to ensure the handle is a perfect fit without reshaping the bats original vee.

Well, I'm strapped for cash and the batmaker has offered to rehandle again for free, another 40 quid is getting it up to the price of a new bloody bat! I'm thinking I'll just do that, ask them to do it again. It can't hurt the performance that much, can it? Having it replaced too many times, I mean.

I'd give the batmaker a chance to make amends. If he was really busy he may not have noticed it. He may have to cut into the cane but if it is glued and clamped properly you will be fine . All batmakers make mistakes.

I would take up the offer for a replacement handle - i am sure the bat maker will do all they can to fix this, especially if they are a sponsor here or read this forum as last thing they will want is their name being mentioned if it goes wrong again.

A re handled bat will always feel different anyway. Just get it done and get using it. It's the only way to tell. Even after 1 rehandle you might not have been able to get on with the new feel.

I think you're trying to say is that you need a company that buys in "uncut" handles (not one that makes them), what I mean by that is a company that doesn't buy them with the V already cut in. I would have thought all companies buy their handles and cut them to their own specs so should marry up to the splice regardless who's cut it. So shouldn't be an problem providing that the blade and handle splicing jig and are spot on.

Can you expand on why you think the company who could re-handle this bat need to make their own handles? The only UK company that I can think of that make their own handle is Charlie French, does that mean that only Charlie can re-handle another brands bat? I'm sorry but I just don't follow.
