compare that to the dross we are being served up at the moment.

Edit - also imagine sky putting up big screens in regents park so the masses can watch the game... unthinkable.

Think free to air doesn't make a difference.

Think again.

A once in a generation team to be honest. There isn't a lot we are doing differently/worse now, but it's not every couple of years players like Flintoff, Pietersen, Vaughan, Strauss and Jones turn up and a pull it all together like that. Also you have to remember McGrath injuring himself in between the first and second test's played a huge role in England's victory.

Better now to get behind our current gems, your Root's, Ballance's and Buttler's in the hope they are still doing the business by the time more talent comes in to back them up.

I think at least the Ashes should be free-to-air but I bet they would just put it on the extra freeview channels like itv4 which I don't like, it needs to be on one of the big four channels BB1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4

Take cricket off of sky and you'll lose a huge part of the county game. I'd love to see it back on terrestrial TV but it just isn't practical anymore. The ecb are so reliant on that TV money that sky could pretty much do what they want when they want and the ECB would have to allow it

Do any free to air broadcasters actually want cricket? They might have to put Gollyoaks back 15 mins...

BBC are interested in F1 and that's not even a real sport!

Sadly although the game needs free to air, the above is the reality

Whilst it might be the reality, it also demonstrates what's wrong with the county structure. If we view cricket in England, we tend to look at it as each individual county as a separate business, much like we do with football clubs.

The reality is that the counties are part of the ECB business and that it has to be looked at as a whole.

I'd love to see the Balance sheet and income statement for English Cricket as "English Cricket". I think it would make interesting reading and would make it a lot easier to make the tough decisions that the misguided counties don't like.
