Bat Choice
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:41:46 PM »

Hi Guys,

My first post here. In love with the forum already, needless to say its going to get me into a lot of trouble!! I was hoping you guys could help me out regarding which bat to go for. I live in Canada so wont be able to go to any of the factories or shops in England (most frustrating).

Budget: Under 200 pounds (excluding postage)
Weight: 2.10 max, preferably 2.9 lbs
Long blade preferably
Round Handle

The pickup and ping are most important to me. I am open to both ready made and custom made bats. I understand in my budget custom bats probably will offer grade 2 or 3 willow, that is fine. I am more concerned about performance. Looking forward to your suggestions  :D

How about @Ryan who can be found in the batmakers shed section. He could knock you up a higher grade custom to your bespoke specifications

Thank you all for the quick responses. I guess I will have to do more digging and ask the bat makers for their opinions, quotes etc.
 @d7bow what is happening Friday?

Any ready made suggestions? Or is the budget too low for that?

Butterfly is the way to go for sub £200, I have an Aldred and B3 and they are both superb performers. I'd also speak highly of Red Ink, very impressed with the custom I had made although haven't had much of a chance to use it in a game yet.

B3 is having a butterfly sale Friday (UK time) afternoon. These bats don't last, so you'll have to jump on it.

Also, Vitas Cricket offers Custom Made Hunts County Grade 1 bats for 175 - I believe.

200 is a pretty decent bat to get pretty much anything.

Is there an import duty on cricket bats in Canada? I think there is.

I also assume you guys play on turf/mat pitches in Canada as we do here in the U.S., so the bounce is usually good, and hence you may wanna look for mid to high sweet spot option.

There is an Australian made Impala Redback on EBay USA site - check it out, and also find out about Canada import charges for stuff that's shipped from across the pond. Sometimes it's brutal.

@ SilverBullet Is the B3 butterfly sale on their website or on the forums? I cant find any info regarding the sale.

@Sitonit Thanks for the info. I guess I will have to take the risk :) We play on some mat pitches but most of them don't have great bounce and generally the bounce is on the average side here.

So after a lot of deliberation I have made a shortlist.

Blank Bats custom
Custom Hunts
H4L G2 Hellfire custom

What are people's general opinions on a G2 willow from H4L? If I can get a G1 from Hunt's at the same price then is it a no brainer? My understanding is that a G2 just looks uglier, G1 and G2 perform the same generally? I really like the Hellfire profile so am a bit more inclined to go with that. Blank bats could be out of my range so I will have to be wait and see with them. Please share your opinions on G2 willows and H4L vs Hunt's in particular. Thanks!!
