GM Mogul 808 Harrow VS GM Octane 808 Harrow
« on: May 03, 2015, 07:49:23 PM »

Hi Guys,

I am 5ft 5 inch adult playing cricket in Scotland. For this season am planning to buy a new bat for myself. I prefer heavy Harrow bats. I am actually confused about which one to go for, GM Mogul 808 Harrow or the GM Octane 808 Harrow. The mogul seems to have an elongated sweet spot, but octane has a massive edge and profile which might give me the weight of 2lb 6 oz weight in a harrow sized bat. I am an opening batsman and prefer to play on the front foot, with cover drive being my strongest shot. I also pull if the ball is short and outside leg stump. OR else for short balls, if its in off stump I prefer playing a back foot square drive, and if its in the leg stump then a back foot jab in the midwicket area.

Considering these can you please help me to select my next gun for the summer?

Kind regards

Hi, this might be controversial but have you thought about buying the women's bat made by GM?  They make women's model in a Six6 or the Migul.  It's the same length as a Harrow but as wide as a SH.  And you can get them in weights between 2.6 and 2.10. I am 5'6 and it's the perfect solution for me, assuming you like hard pressed bats ☺️

Hi Percy,

Thanks a lot. I have given this a thought, but am not finding many retailors are keeping the Women;s bat in grade 808. Most are 606. If you come across any please let me know.

Is the 'Womens' size longer than the harrow?

The GM size chart thing implies it is longer than a harrow...

As a hobbit myself, I think the 'womens' size would be perfect... maybe they should change the name of the size to something less... girlie...

Might have to check out a few retailers!

Yes its longer than a harrow. The only indication that it is a womens bat is the sticker on the top of the handle, which is easily remived ;)

We have a couple of 404's in stock, happy to order a higher grade in for someone

It's a bit strange how GM don't detail the exact specs for these bats.

Vitas, it might be worth posting a couple of pics next to a SH and a Harrow for the lads to see the difference?

How responsive are GM to requests for certain weights?  For example, the OP wants a 808 at 2.6lb, can GM deliver the right weight bat or is it a bit lucky dip?

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for replying.
Vitas, it will be really helpful if you can let me know how much would a GM Mogul 808 Womens bat will cost. I guess the GM 404 Womens bats that you have got are Mogul brands, arent they?

And yeah pictures of the bat will be great bonus.

Finally Vitas, I went to your website http://www.vitascricket.co.uk/ but its has a lot of html errors and hence not rendering properly. Can you please have a look at that?

Kind regards

Left to right: SH, Womens, Harrow.

The Womens is slightly bigger overall than a harrow, the key difference is that it is a full width bat.
