Should I get this Fera?
« on: May 06, 2015, 08:43:10 AM »

I have an opportunity to buy a 2nd hand Salix Fera Performance – pictures below.

The bat looks to be in pretty good condition with hardly any use, no obvious damage and apparently stored properly. I have been told the bat is only 3 years old but it has the older Fera stickers which were apparently stopped after the 2008 season so maybe they bought it as a clearance? I haven’t had it in my hands yet, but will do before I hand any cash over.

Clearly Salix make great bats and a few people on here have given the Fera good reviews. I would love to have a Salix in my bag, but I don’t want to waste my money, so should I even consider this or does the potential age since manufacture (7yrs) make it too big a risk?

If I do proceed then other than tapping it up and checking for cracks or delamination what else should I look for before handing over any money. I have agreed a price assuming it is in good nick (which is more than £50 but less than £100) would be interesting to see what you think is a fair price?

Thanks,

A bat  of that age that's been stored  will probably be dry.
I should also ask how and where it as been stored and for how long.
Try and established how old the bat actually  is from the seller and Salix.
Lean on the handle any flex in the vee if there is what's causing it.
Is the handle in good condition.
Tap along and across the blade with your finger does the sound change in the hitting area
Fair Price well it's what's The bats worth to you personally wouldn't pay more than 30.00 due to the age of the bat.

Lots of views but not many comments on this thread (thanks to those that have). Surely more people have an opinion on buying a lightly used but older second hand bat?  :)

Would be great to hear from people who have or did have a Fera - are they good bats, did it last well/do you still use it?

Also do they generally pick up lighter than their dead weight?

Thanks,

Most forumites have jumped in feet first to dozens of trades like this before. All would agree some turn out great, some turn out to be duds.

It's not a large sum of money so I say have a go.

Just go for it mate!
Buy now, think later. Life's too short to spend more than 5 minutes contemplating things like this  ;)
