As I see it it KP was never wanted back in the test team he was led to believe if he played county cricket and scored runs the door back to the test side was open in the hope that he would say no to county cricket or if he played he would fail to score runs that way it could be said he had been given an opportunity but failed to take it.But because KP ceased his opportunity and scored runs.
They needed to change tactics before the call they knew would come to include him hence the lack of trust statement
im sure you're right. It's been a game of bluff and double bluff and totally free of any morals on both sides. As with most things, if you don't sort it out and leave it, it festers into a much larger problem, people start telling lies(the ecb recently) and with todays media around every corner everything and every sentence gets magnified.Everyone has an opinion and it's 'good' media-for those in the media.
Don't know if anyone else has seen Gowers article today, not a hatchet job on Cook, but very much implied it's down to Cook that the issue is this big,and he should of been more proactive sorting it out.
He doesn't say it but looks like Gower's issue is not just telling KP, look your not playing in my side we are moving forward and that is that...
For those that remember this may mirror Gower's own exile from the England side under Gooch. Gower wouldn't change his attitude to training/nets,etc and it most certainly cost him 2 years of his career for England.
History repeating itself a bit maybe......except Gower never canned his team mates and any issues, and i'm sure there were back then, were sorted out in the dressing room.
Todays multi media may suit Kevin Pieterson who uses it well but it doesn't gel with a team dressing room-whether it's 1984 or 2004.
Just my opinion.....
