Half of us won't be able to watch it anyway, due to a lack of Sky or a lack of highlights!

Exactly squire, the above quote should be shoved under the ECB's noses if they ever wondered why interest in playing and watching is dwindling.

The first ever game/series of cricket I watched as a 15 year old. And now here I am, with crippling batting related ocd and around 12 bats...

In all seriousness, without the buzz around that series I would have never even picked up a bat!

Must have watched the highlights dvd's (Best £6 I ever spent in Asda) at least 37 times! ha

To give an indication of the viewers:

Peak 2005 viewing (FTA) - 8.4mn viewers
Peak 2009 viewing (Sky) - 1.9mn viewers

Only 23% of the viewers in 2009, or in other words, 77% fewer viewers, which I like to round to 80% as it has more impact.

I wonder if there's a correlation in ready exposure to cricket on tv and the relative rabidness of the fan?
If it was after the first Test in 2005 today, many on here would be calling for mass changes with players they'd most likely never seen... :)

But we're the rabid fans who pay for Sky Sports to watch cricket (well I do) so I think we don't count!

I want to know what happened to the 2004 DVD, when we won all 7 tests against NZ/Windies. Never seen that DVD released.

for me it wasn't just the ashes series which is by far the best i have ever seen, but also the previous series against south africa. the way they were playing cricket was just brilliant to watch.

i have have hardly seen any cricket on tv since then due to not having sky.

i really love watching the dvd highlights still gets the tingles even knowing what is going to happen
