Hi guys

Playing in the first game of the season on the 20th April, I fractured my middle finger on my left hand. I can still feel a little bit of stiffness in it, and I was wondering that even if it still feels a bit stiff, I am okay taking catches etc. as normal?

What type of fracture was it? Assume you were properly diagnosed as you say it was fractured?
I did middle finger right hand, mallet fracture, last season and was out of cricket entirely for 6-8 weeks

Good luck will keep an eye out as broke little finger and had surgery to pin think it's gonna be min10-12 weeks for me.

It was an avulsion base of the distal phalanx I think? She said 3-6 weeks. Sometimes it feels completely fine and other times it still feels a little bit stiff/sore. I just wondered if I was being a bit weak not training or playing with it, as I'm sure pro cricketers always get these kind of injuries and just play through them?

Pro cricketers make a living playing cricket. Non-pros don't. Better to let it heal and have full use of your fingers than play to soon, damage it more and stop yourself from doing something else.

I played with a broken fingertip for most of last season, the year before that i had a cracked/chipped 4th metacarpal

A lot depends on which part of the finger/hand, as well as your pain threshold. I've broken other parts of my hands before when playing football as a goalkeeper and there was no way any sport was possible for a few weeks.

Nothing, there isn't anything to help a broken finger unfortunately other than rest. Hence my decision to play through it.

A splint holds it in place to ensure it at least heals relatively straight, and may add some protection (tape etc required to splint it) but as a wicket keeper i didn't have this option, bent fingers are pretty much expected anyway.

I would assess your potential to bat with this injury before making any decisions.

Coming from someone who has kept wicket pretty much since I was 13 and played a good standard of football hence resulting in my breaking or fracturing every finger except my little fingers on both hands take the time to recover fully. I'm 31 with the onset of arthritis in my hands and when it's cold my fingers are painful and this age already. You rely on hands so much not worth it in my book. I would play with strapping and a paracetamol when you her because I love cricket so much but some days really wish I didn't.
