  • If I only could bat....

Following our experience today with Alex Blackwell, an Aussie international woman who will be playing in the Ashes this summer,  playing in the Kent Regional leagues at a third team level (did I mention I got her out) I wondered what the most inappropriate opposition player for the standard you play that you had played against was?

I once played against an ex-Aussie Pro, who was playing for Ynysygerwyn CC 3rdXI. He scored 200 odd until he smashed one straight back at me which I caught with my chest after falling to the floor in sheer pain and disbelief.

When I first went to the UK there was a lad playing in the Kent Regional Cricket League who I had been told about. Clearly playing in a grade far too low for his abilities as his records show. I never played against him personally but glad I didn't!

PARAG MADKAIKAR is his name http://krcl.play-cricket.com/website/player_stats_widget/batting_stats/260304?rule_type_id=179

Opened the batting in a B grade rep game in a local Brisbane comp. The opposition opening bowler was a First Class opening bowler for Wellington, NZ bowling with a two piece ball. Third ball swung about a kilometer and took out leg stump...

I think there was a similar thread that you might want to merge this one with but anyway, Trent Boult plays sometimes in our comp and although I have never faced him the last time he did play he took about 8-20 I think.

i played in a modest kent league in the mid 90s which also contained Lashings in their early days, when they recruited some guy called Muttiah Muralitharan. He was due to play his first game against us but sadly it got rained off so I guess it doesn't count...

There's a "best player you've played against topic" which isn't the same. If you've played Chris Cairns playing for Nottinghamshire when you were in a uni rep side, it's not quite the same as playing an Aussie international when playing 3rd team league cricket ;)

Pretty sure the lads in Bradley Stoke 4th XI weren't expecting Ian Harvey to be opening the batting for Bedminster 5th XI on this day

Was that when he played for Stillington. Who did you play for them?

Had numerous run ins over the years with him while he was there then at Dunnington.

In a cup match he put about 7-8 over the Stillington club house (straight over bowlers head) before top edging a rank log hop and as he skies it he said "that's the worst ball I have ever faced, man".

The bats he used were massive too.

Who you playing for @tim2000s? I've got a feeling we're playing her in a few weeks from what I've heard...

Nahh must be thinking of a different player then. I joined Roan and Lambethans at the start of the season, friend of mine was joining them so I went along - great bunch of lads to be fair though a few leagues below you by the looks of it!

I swear one of them was on about us playing one of the Aussie women's team in a few weeks, in fact she might be in the academy if I remember rightly... this was after a few post game beers yesterday mind

Roan and Colfes have a bit of a history together. Our 5ths became Roan's first team in 2013 (I think it was that way around). There was a lot of overlap in the years prior to the move and the fifths used to play Roan in the league.

How are you getting on with them?

After a bit of play cricket stalking, it seems she only played for the 3rds because the Kent League refused to let her play. Seems wonderfully progressive.
