So when you move to a new area in anew county there are many things that need to be done to make you feel comfortable in you new home or local area and for me one of those is the nearest bat maker. So about 50 mins from me is David and Norfolk Cricket bats.
Firstly David is as lovely bloke to deal with, very passionate about what he does and proud of his company and the work he has done. Its a lovely little business set on the grounds of a little holiday/fishing complex and all work is carried out on site, there were plenty of raw state clefts, handled clefts and non handled clefts for me to choose from.
So on to my bat. Well having moved to Suffolk and playing my first season here my new home club has an amazing batting deck its true, fast and bouncy so I have gone light with a long, high middle. So I have gone for the duck bill profile but with a high spine and a flat face. As you can see its a bit of a take on the duck bill with full profile that you see on a lot of. TON bats and that I have on both my SS bats. The flat face to me when fully knocked in is a more powerful bat, the two best bats I have are both flat faced and also as the produce bigger edges it gives a bit more confidence.
The bat is 2.78 finished with 38mm edges and approx 63mm spine so quite a big bat. Very light density cleft and this was one of the RR selection of clefts so top of the Norfolk range. One thing was the quality of the wood when I was there was exceptional. Straight grains, a little blemish on the back but nothing elsa. Lovely think semi oval handle, fits perfectly in my hands with one grip which I really like the feel of. Finally the bat was finished in these brand new aqua green stickers which to me look the bogs dangles.
I completed this bat with some Norfolk RR pads and RR 1 gloves both of which are top end, gloves are pittards palmed which is a much for me with gloves and pads are very light.
All in all very impressed with my new local maker and having seen a few of these bats in action in my short while in Suffolk they certainly go very well.
