My club is desperately in need of proper keepers at both 1st and 2nd team level and this week the 2nd team captain is being forced to keep because the usual keeper is unavailable. I've long been thinking about taking up keeping because I seem to catch better from the slip/gully type positions than I do out in the deep, and with the shortage of specialist keepers I see it as my way out of being on the fringes of the club and into a regular spot in either squad. The 2nd team captain seems to be in favour of me becoming a keeper, so i'm considering taking it up. I haven't kept since the school PE days where we played indoors (where i'd often shove myself in a close position anyway to wind up the Flintoff wannabes) so any advice as to technique that you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Also, does anyone have any kit recommendations? I've budgeted for £30-40 each for gloves and pads. I'll probably have to get youth sized gear like I do with batting pads and gloves, would this be an issue gloves wise against the full adult ball?
