West Indies vs Australia: Test series.
« on: June 02, 2015, 04:52:48 PM »

Two match Test series starts tomorrow in Dominica.

Big story ahead of the series was that the ageless Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been axed, 70 off runs short of surpassing Brian Lara as West Indies highest run scorer. Lara himself wasn't very amused by the decision.

For Australia, veteran opener Chris Rogers - whos career will end after the Ashes - is ruled out after suffered concussion after being hit on that head in the nets. So Rogers has a maximum 6 Tests left in his career.

That aside Shaun Marsh will open with Davy Warner. Steven Smith has been anointed at the new number 3. There are potential debuts for either Adam Voges or Fawad Ahmed dependant on pitch conditions.

Interesting that voges 35 and Ahmed 33 aren't considered too old to debut. It's great knowing that the selectors appear set to pick whomever is in form rather than picking young players that aren't ready.

Interesting to see if Smith can keep up his amazing form given that teams have had a bit of time to work out a plan to him.

This is my evenings sorted for the next couple of weeks then! Have Australia gone with the ashes squad to the WI or have they rested a few?

Be interesting to see how the Aussies go against spin. Expecting the tracks to turn.

Chanderpaul deserved a last series, embarrassing stuff from Clive Lloyd

I'm disappointed that there's been indications that Voges will debut ahead of Ahmed.
Ahmed was among the best bowlers in the domestic season, bowled well in the tour match and the track looks like it will take well to the spinners. Surely this is as good a chance as any to give him a crack and especially with the Ashes coming up it'd be handy have a leggie with good test match practice.
And going into the test a batter short might put our top order under the pump a bit but that could only be good experience in the long run?

Maybe they don't want to show him to the English too early

Voges also had a good shield season and rightly deserves his spot if chosen.
However like you I'd like to see Ahmed play and bowl well.

Adam Voges, at the tender age of 35, has been handed Baggy Green cap number 442. He's the eleventh oldest man to debut for Australia.

To be honest Voges has earned his place. He scored bucket loads for Western Australia. And it's similar to the Rogers selection in 2013. We need experience in English conditions.

Anyway West Indies won the toss and selected to bat. Two changes for the home side Shane Dowrich debuts(replacing chanderpaul) and bishoo for permaul.

For Australia Voges, Starc and Watson are in.
