bowling stats are pretty impressive for the Australian bowling unit in this short series

Hazlewood 12 wickets @ 8.83
Starc 10 wickets @ 16.00
Johnson 8 wickets @ 18.62
Lyon 8 wickets @ 19.25

Seems like Starc will be the unlucky bowler come Cardiff as Harris is a cert to play.

It's gonna be bloody hard against this attack for ENGLAND make no mistake but this is ashes cricket we all need a hero.

It was a DISASTER for Johnson. It was the series the English fans made fun of him for being shyte.

Mitchell Johnson took 20 wickets in that 2009 series. On the surface not too bad?

England's best bowler that series was Broad with 15 wickets.

How did James "the greatest bowler in the world" Anderson go in that series? He took 10 wickets. Yep. TEN WICKETS.

....and Mitch Johnson is remembered as being shyte, yet Anderson is the greatest bowler of all time.

And you wonder why we think some of you Poms are peckerheads?

The three leading wicket takers were Australian...

Only Broad and Onions of the main bowlers for England averaged below 40 but even both of them were above 30...

Yes, I am English. Despite this, I won't start saying Jimmy is the World's greatest bowler (equally he isn't a clubbie, as some on here  suggest, either). In the 2009 series your batsmen scored more hundreds than ours, and your bowlers took more wickets than ours. There is one vital stat you appear to be forgetting though - our team won more tests than yours! 

I'm looking at the squads for this series and I honestly think England will get beaten. I'd love them to prove me wrong, but I just can't se them winning the series.

Still my opinion, Harris is more of a problem than Johnson. Apart from the ECB Press Office and parts of the English press, most people on here are fairly realistic about Anderson. I don't remember calling him the "greatest bowler in the world" or hearing it from any English members on this forum. In England he is as good as anyone and since YOU brought it up, using 2013 as a more relevant benchmark (you've been using the Gerry SA school of selective statistics I see) for the coming series he took 21 wickets which only Ryan Harris of the seamers beat him (in 1 less test - 24 wickets in 4 tests), hence my original comment which had nothing to do with Jimmy Anderson.

Johnson didn't play in 2013. He played in the 2009 Ashes...and awful as he was, Anderson who played all five tests, took...sorry, 12 wickets and Broad not much more. Yet the English press and fans kept crowing how awful Johnson was?

Who is being selective? You brought up Johnson's one and only English tour, and I showed you that he was far and away better than your two spearheads...one of whom is constantly trumped up to be "the greatest of all time".

It is a measure of the mistrust of Anderson in the last series that the English doctored all the pitches to be like Indian turners to let Swan do his thing. With no Swan this time, it will be interesting to see what kind of pitches are served up. If they are green tops again, Anderson will be a factor, but heaven help you when a four pronged attack of Harris, Hazelwood, Starc and Johnson are hurling missiles down on the English batsmen on those same green tops.

England's best chance really does rest on preparing raging turners...but if Mo is your best spinner, that really isn't going to be a wise strategy either.

Never-the-less - it will be interesting.

That is how it panned out.

When England won a session, it resulted in the match being won.; cf Lords and The Oval.

Australia on the other hand dominated the two rain shortened test matches at Sophia Gardens and Edgbaston (?) where nothing came of their dominance.

The test they did win was  by a big margin.

Hence the lop sided stats for the series.
