I got a very painful blow on the thumb while batting yesterday. This is something that's happened to me a few times down the years and seems to highlight a weakness in glove design, at least for most of those I've seen. If you're playing straight to a lifting ball, the only bit of the thumb that is likely to be hit is the very tip (play an imaginary forward defensive in the mirror and you'll see
) which on my gloves just has the usual rubber bit inside the glove and a little bit of soft foam in the end. I haven't seen a glove whose padding on the back of the thumb (which is almost redundant) wraps right round the tip; are there any and, if so, can anbody vouch for its effectiveness?
Cheers
