Hi,

After my last bat broke I am in the process of deciding which bat to get next with a budget of around �100 and have decided to turn to this forum for advice! After looking around I have found 4 options:
Red Ink X3
Bulldog Basher
Bellingham and Smith Assegai 3 Star
Gray Nicolls Vortex Five Star
I was wondering if anybody who has used these bats could give feedback and recommend which is the best bat to buy. Alternatively any advice on other good bats to buy at around this price would be appreciated also.

The Bellingham and Smith is the best value for money out of that lot in my opinion. Very good bats for the price.

B3 butterfly may also fit your budget. @procricket could help there. Great bats.

Do you wish to use this bat for practice or match ? If you are buying a match bat, i would recommend pushing your budget a little higher to 150 GBP. At that price point you can get a grade 1 english willow from most asian brands - SS Limited edition, SG Sunny Gold, SF Sapphire etc.

I got a custom G1 bat from Jake at Vitas cricket (priced around 175 GBP) and it performs really well. You can try contacting him or any other forum sponsor for that matter. For the most part i have found all vendors in this forum, to be very helpful when you are confused which bat to choose :-) ...

Now then, not to start an argument, but whether a G1 or a G3 or a butterfly, it is not the looks of the willow that count, rather the way the batmaker prepares it. I have two butterfly willow bats which are very much at the cheap end of the spectrum and both of them are immensely effective weapons that hit the ball as far as G1s (when used by the correct player!).

Ultimately if you want better performance buy a lower cost bat made by a highly regarded batmaker (I'd recommend B3 and Hunts as two brands that make exceptional bats in Butterfly willow) and spend anything you have spare on coaching and nets to improve your timing. You would see a far greater performance improvement by doing this.

Red Ink for quality of willow and price for an handmade bat takes some beating the ones I have seen were excellent really ping.

I'll echo these comments, I bought a GM Six6 404 as a "net bat" last year. It was a minger, but it was a pinger! I used it as my match bat all season in fact. It has since been sold to a teammate who loves it.

It's no secret that looks don't always mean performance, the same is true for bats.

I would also recommend Red Ink, ive had one made in the past and they are really nice bats for the price.

Can you get a butterfly b3 for �100?

And for that sort of money can I be asking them for things like large middle, soft pressed?

I realise I could just message b3 about this but I'm not going to actually buy this in the next month or two and I hate asking businesses about their products and then saying "oh, that's interesting, thanks, bye".

What model Six6 was the one I had off you mate? I've been using it in the nets lately as it's a bit heavier than my usual match bat, decent stick!

That was a 404 too, Adam.

Had the cleft not been about 800 density (using the B3 system) it would've almost certainly been a higher grade. I'm surprised it wasn't just on looks.

Not bad! Looks wise it could easily pass as a 606 without any problem, you're not wrong about the density though ha
