Amount of weight lose from a refurb and modifications
« on: July 09, 2015, 08:43:37 AM »

Couldn't see the answer straight away but I wondered how much weight a bat loses in a refurb? I think the number that sticks in my head is 0.5oz.

Two other questions:-

1. I'm particularly keen to not touch the main spine/hitting area on the back of the bat. Could I lose some weight sanding the face flatter? ie. from an F7 to an F4.5 or F2 face type
2. I have the spine running into the toe but to be honest it doesn't seem to help much. It's a bit of a dead weight and could do with being slightly flattened in the toe area.

In both cases it would be useful to know the amount of weight that would be taken off.

I don't know how sanding certain areas would effect it, but GM told me they can take 2-3oz off by sanding all over.

I'd imagine the weight difference would be minimal for the work you've listed, but taking a small amount of wood out of the toe may have a surprisingly good effect of the pickup.

That would be going some! Refurbed a Hunts County a few weeks ago and it lost nearly 2oz in weight, but more than an oz was the stickers/scuff and I reckoned 0.5oz was the sanding.

Nick A light  refurb would remove around 1/2 ounce to remove  3 ounce is the equivalent of cutting 3 inches of the bottom of your bat. I have seen Batmakers do it using a sanding belt.
You can remove weight by sanding the face but make sure you sand evenly.
Ideally with dead weight the area to sand is the back of the toe
