This or anything similar still available?  If so what is the edge size and spine height?

Yes this is still available. 36mm edge, 58mm spine. Approx.

I agree with the grade 1 butterfly remark, a butterfly should really just be a butterfly.
I haven't had a bad one yet. The 2 aldreds I use now are great, one multigrainer that is lovely and the other would need a set of beer goggles to be even looked at but goes like the clappers. Ive had 5 b3s in various shapes and weights and they all seem to hit hard and true out of the stain.

Can't agree on the one grade idea. With that you're saying all bats are graded on looks alone. I've had four now and the all go very well but there are differences between them.

The butterfly bat that I have doesn't seem small for the weight, it's quite a generous size.
Yes on looks they aren't everyone's cup of tea. - I like the look of some of them - some more than others - like any bat...
I showed the bat to an old guy at work who got quite misty eyed about it and told me he hadn't seen one in use in years.
'We all wanted butterfly bats in my day but they were reserved for the pros,' he reckoned.

I don't think 'grade 1 butterfly' is the best way of putting it, but why would you not grade some butterfly willow as better than others? Here's a butterfly I own and one that is very similar to a teammate's, I think it's entirely fair to say that one is a nicer piece of willow than the other! Might as well say that all bats with heartwood should be graded the same.

Doesn't JS Wright's Grade 1 classification now include the 'top 2% of butterfly stained willow'? Or did it always?

No
Wrights grade on visual appearance this includes Butterfly stain number of blemishes and knots and straightness of grain.
The greater the staining the lower the grade.

Sorry, Grade 2. I did read it the other day, and think "was that always the case?"

"A Grade 2 blade is also very good quality and normally a larger amount of red wood can be seen on the edge of a blade, this has no effect on the playing ability of the bat it is purely cosmetic. Again there will be at least 6 straight grains on the face of the blade with maybe some blemishes, pin knots or “speck” visible, we also put the top 2% of the excellent quality butterfly blades that we get into Grade 2."
