Who is to say that Haddin wasn't about to get dropped anyway. The family first announcement might of been more to save face, albeit the wrong message to send out.

Just to throw a spanner into the sickness cover thing - if a person comes in for a short term contract, the company have every right to make them full time and move the person coming back from sick leave to another job. It's a recognition of how well that job has been done and ensuring the person on sick leave has a role in the company they can perform. Not an employment lawyer but you can come back to a different role within a company as long as it's not so different it's viewed as constructive dismissal.  In Haddin's case number 2 keeper.

Yes but the company have to offer you a role within the company So on that basis  Haddin could  argue he should be in the team.

Not quite the same as he still has his cricket Australia contract and is still on the tour.

This is a tough call - personally I think Haddin was about to get dropped for Neville and then had to sit out the game anyway. Fingers crossed his daughter is getting better.

Neville is a very fine player and, I suspect, Smith's preferred keeper...

Anyway - this is all old news....
Anyone going? Are we worried about Anderson not playing??

Yes crapping myself. Of all the grounds to be injured for - Trent Bridge! I don't think the rest of our bowling attack fill me with much hope. If the ball swings at Trent Bridge we are done for, 2 all.

Then again according to some of our overseas cousins he's overrated anyway, so it shouldn't make any difference should it?

Yes, especially if we lose the toss and bowl first, he can be nigh on unplayable first morning at Trent Bridge. But who knows, the Aussies might be more scared of Finn after that 2nd innings at Edgbaston!

Looks as if Wood won't play either. he can't even bowl of a short run up at the moment.

Plunkett most likely to be next in line. I am not sure you can risk a new cap at this point.

Personally I think Broad, Finn and Plunkett are all too similar as bowlers i.e. Tall bang it in types

I would tend to agree - there must be a swinger out there worth considering?

Jimmy at Trent Bridge 53 test wickets inc two 10 wicket hauls  and a pitch that seams
Australia off the hook.

not yet.England must know now 5 days of quality cricket and we get the Ashes back. :)
Should the Aussies come back again(it's like a boxing contest this series) then respect to them and they probably deserve to retain the precious urn.

Yes but Jimmy at Trent bridge would have been the key to stopping them coming back.

I don't think the Anderson loss is that much of a concern.

The bloke has looked out of sorts during this test series, yes Trent Bridge is an advantage to him but he looked poor in Cardiff, Lords and 2nd innings at Edgbaston

I think this is a good chance for someone to step up to the plate
