Suggest me a profile and maker please?
« on: August 03, 2015, 09:11:06 PM »

Ok firstly I've been on and off this forum for 4 years and have never posted as I've not had much need too... But I've come across a dilemma, I've been using hawk cricket for 8 years now and have nothing but good experiences from their bats and service! However I'm now at a stage in my life where I can't justify hawk prices! Girlfriend, kid on the way.... etc.

Ok now a bit about me as a player! I'm shortish 5ft7 and open the batting I'm a very patient player who will happily block out when needs too! And like a bat around 2.8, my main scoring shots are cover drives and off drives.... so I'd like to think my batting usually is very text book! However my main sport is hockey (I know should be cricket... but yeah sorry lads), so if I need too score very quickly the slog sweep and agricultural swings come out!

So my real question is can someone suggest a profile? (I tend too hit low on the bat.... hockey influenced;)

And can you offer a bat maker in/ near the midlands? Or Staffordshire/ Worcestershire? As I like to see the kit I'm buying before handing over my money.

I'd be tempted to go to a forum sponsor and ask what they think.

@Red Ink Cricket are excellent to deal with and I'm yet to see a bad word about their bats.

Go for a high middle if you are short, amplus profile maybe? Short people from what's been said on this forum and my personal experience tend to hit it higher up the blade. Also suggest getting a harrow length/ full width blade and possibly a SSH.

I understand the theory on the higher middle with me being not particularly tall.... however if I do go for a swing I tend too find myself hitting the ball very low down, as my natural instinct is more in line with hockey, hitting the ball on the end of the stick! So yes, when I play more cultured I do find the higher middle helpful! But when needs must as I hit low down when putting my arms through the damn thing... I find I lack oomph as I fail to find the middle! Ideally (I know this probably doesn't exist! But I need a profile which will have a long middle, which start low! Yet still be able to provide a decent amount of punch further up! .....the only bays I've came across which are able to provide this either pick up poor or are very heavy! That's while I'm calling on all off your expert knoledge bases! ;) nothing like flattery! ;)

Check where you hit the ball on your current bat, but something with a tendulkar profile although a lot lighter may work for you.

Sorry for the excessive use of exclamation marks! Didn't mean for it too come across shout and as if I'm ungrateful for your answers. Both your points are very valid and justified.

Thank you both very much

And I know I hit it mid too low... other than when defending which hits high due to my lack of height

High middle bats tend to respond pretty well low down as well, I think their is some science behind it but an extended middle like a scat profile might be an alternative.

Agreed.

Look for a "Harrow" Amplus from Millichamp and Hall, they are reasonably priced and a lot of bat for money.

Doesnt Ryan make pretty good bats for around that price point he's after?
