Smartphone apps for Score Keeping
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:24:07 PM »

We are starting a new tournament and looking to keep track of scores using andriod/iphone-ipad apps. Does anyone recommend any that they have used it in past ? We plan to stop using the paper score sheets.
Its for a 20-20 over tournament.

I've used nxCricket scorecard for a few years. It's not free, but it is very flexible and I found works well. It will email teams out, scorecards, etc and I think it's now capable of uploading to play cricket.

CricHQ also gets good reviews.

CricHq is very good. You can set up teams and indivudual players and set up their stats and averages. I think you even set up a wagon wheel  :)

I was just thinking of starting a thread asking this, love it when someone else does the work for me  :D

So is CricHQ the app that most people go for?

Try CricClubs.com or Chauka.in both have great features along with very reliable and easy to use apps for both platforms.

Chauka.in is India based and proven over time.

Cricclubs is US based and is decent.

We used to use Total Cricket Scorer (TCS) which costs very little and this year we have switched to CricHQ. Both are good, CricHQ has got a lot more features but costs more too.

We used CricHQ for our Winter indoors tournament. I found the interface to be slow and a bit buggy, don't know if they've resolved these things over past six months.

I tried a lot of the scorecards on the app store and was put off with having to enter a lot of data prior to starting!

You have to write out both team sheets which seemed very time consuming.

Particularly when you only have 10 minutes or so before the first ball is bowled.

Also not great if your team regularly changes.

Also that the opposition won't use it which is very frustrating.

Will work for more organised teams!

@L21, I'm a big advocate of mobile app scoring over paper based scoring. Most of the apps that are linked to  league management portals make it easier by allowing you to select specific match from the schedule you're scoring for and select players from online registered squads.
