Kookaburra Kahuna Graphite Back
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:38:47 PM »

So a guy at my club was talking to me yesterday about getting his bat cleaned up fully and new stickers on afterwards of which I was happy to do, he wants it done at the end of the season, but the only issue is that it is one of the old kookaburra kahunas with the graphite backs. Having never refurbed one of these before I thought I'd ask before agreeing to the job, and that is can you and if so remove the graphite backs from them?
Is it simple like a large sticker and just peel away or do I rely on trying to scrape it off or do I just accept that it's not made to be removed?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks tom

Why would you remove the graphite back? The rarity value of that bat is astonishing. They go for a lot of money.

Blimey don't touch the back! They are so rare! I wonder how many out there have been removed?

I don't personally want to remove the back but it's not my choice I was more wondering on how I could take it off if anyone has any experience. Part of it is missing from a rehandle any way which is why I think he wants the rest removed to make the bat look newish

That bat is incredibly rare and should be left in its original condition!! You can't remove the graphite back without destroying the bat!!!

Just clean up the hitting area, leave the back as it is and put a sticker over to hide the missing section of graphite if he's insistent!
And tell him from me, he's a moron for wanting to remove it!

Tell him it's worth a good wedge. Might change his mind.

I was in the process of cleaning up my graphite kahuna when I came across this post, its been sat at home for the best part of 5 years as I've found the middle a bit to high for North-West England wickets.
Tried doing a bit of research but had no luck. Does anyone know how much these bats are worth?

All depends on condition but they are very good bats and a lot of people who collect bats would pay upto I would say 175 if not a bit more but condition is everything
