Custom Solitaire !
« on: December 11, 2009, 11:06:07 PM »

A few other members have done a review in recent days and as mine had turned up i thought it would perhaps add some more facts to what Solitaire can offer. I will do a brief review etc below with pictures of the bat and I'm sure members will have various views.

My Order and Specs

The bat took around 7 days to arrive, my specs as asked for were for a big shape bat similar to bats I've used from India however i asked for a concave back with a bowed blade and big edges and profile. Weight i asked for was 2lb 10oz and i based my weight on a naked bat, no rubber, no stickers, no anti scuff. Willow i asked for 8-9 grains with no red but apart from that my order was more about shape and performance balance and pick up so i dint get that heavily involved about number of grains and if there ruler straight as i base my opinion on bats simply on performance.

What Arrived

A bat matching my profile my requirements which also looks like it matches my weight, according to my kitchen scales weighs it just under 2lb 12oz but I'm going to check this out further as they ain't the best and look as old as me. Around 9 grains with no red and they are straight enough for my liking. Balance and pick up are very very good, I've had a quick tap with a mallet and all seems well but i will comment on performance when i have tested it fully. In my opinion its the shape i wanted and in the size of profile i requested so i couldn't be happier at only £110.00 ?

Got to say it, that bat looks an absolute pearler - from the few bats i have seen from Roger you can tell he has his own distinct shape, with the concaving on the back and the thickish edges towards the toe. I think i will have to try one of these bats out myself one day - good review aswell and pics. I like the shape but would ask for the middle to be a little lower.

By the way, is no heartwood a personal preference? Why did you go with that?

No heartwood was my personnel preferences, at first i was offered a bat with around 12-15 grains with around 25mm of heartwood but i asked for no heartwood at all. Ive not found heartwood to improve performance or durability of a bat and id go as far to say its been the opposite in my experience but that could just be bad luck.

The middle of the sweet spot is roughly 175mm from the bottom of the bat, edge thickness is around 36mm and the spine is around 59mm but I'm not fussed about those measurements but it will give an indication to the profile etc.

Well........... you need to improve on the rug as it's nowhere near big enough for a full bat review, but its great to see that you are carrying on the whole "bat on white sheep rug theme"!  ;)

But seriously, it looks like a really nice bat! So far today, we have seen a few really decent Solitaire bats being delivered!

oh my! One thing that Roger is the best at is getting huge, thick and meaty edges on a bat, no matter how light it be.

Has anyone had a bat lighter than 2lb 11oz off Roger?

My friend is possibly going to order a bat from Solitaire and he uses a 2lb 9oz bat so if he orders i will get some pictures, not spoken to him today so I'm not sure if he has placed an order or not. I will do a review on my Mongoose tomorrow which I'm sure will cause a good debate.
