How to clean the bat after removing the stickers?
« on: August 20, 2015, 03:11:34 PM »

Hi guys I took the stickers off my Spartan bat and also the scuff sheet and the toe guard to make it a bit lighter and it has made it about an ounce lighter and pickup is much better but it looks horrible now with sticker marks and the scuff sheet part is very sticky, how to clean that? Should I use sans paper? Which one and where to buy it?

Thanks for the help guys [emoji3]

Use white spirit or WD40 to remove the sticker residue, then once you've rubbed most/all of it off start sanding.

If the stickers didn't lift too much willow I'd start with 240 grit, working up to 400.

Any chance of some pictures (before, during and after the process) so we can critique your work  ;)

I use DIY sticky stuff remover works a treat. Should you decide to hand sand use 420 grit for smooth finish available from specialized DIY shops

Damn Chrome stickers always do that. I usually just use my fingers to rub the chrome off before using the other techniques mentioned. Nice looking bat.

heat gun used for stripping wallpaper is good for getting the chrome off.  Just be very careful.  Alternate between heating the chrome, scraping with a plastic card and a bit of white spirit.  Alternatively, try a hairdryer.  Probably takes longer, as it won't be as hot, but could be safer in the long run

Don't have the heat gun or white spirit, could I use the linseed oil and then try to remove the sticky glue? Would that work?

I prefer white spirit as it evaporates quickly enough it doesn't do ant damage to or linger on the bat.
As you're going to be sanding anyway you'll get rid of any leftover WD-40,but it may prevent a scuff sheet sticking in the future. I hadn't thought to use WD-40 until a teammate (who used to do bat repairs for a local sport shop) suggested it to me, and even then I only use it when I haven't got any white spirit to hand.

Cleaned the bat with white spirit and also used 120, 240, 380 and 600 sandpapers and now it looks better.

Thanks everyone for helping me out on this :) using white spirit was like magic...wow it took that sticky glue off so easily and then the sandpaper work...the bat is very clean with super fine finish.
