Winter nets at Oval
« on: September 10, 2015, 07:51:49 PM »

Anyone done these before?

As someone who's not played properly in 13/14 years and playing a few games more recently it's pretty clear I need some help on everything...

No,  but a  bunch of West London  based forumites usually net there in the New Year.  As we all know everything,  we can give you all the  coaching you'll ever need!

Whereabouts are you based?

Clayton Street, literally 2 minutes from the Oval hence it being wonderfully ideal. I've booked for the first week anyway so we'll see how it goes.

As for New Year nets consider me down for it!

Bumping this. Looking at the booking thing there's still 29 out of 30 spaces available, some 1-1 with my awful ability will do the coaches head in, ha

I used to go this in the late 90s early  2000s. Definitely recommended. Coaches quickly sorted you by ability and had you in a group suited you. There was a mix of specific coaching drills, eg one to help you play on the leg side, or back foot drives, and a decent amount of time batting in the nets.

Sounds perfect for me then as I'm pretty poor. Quite excited about it actually! Need to buy a helmet before next week though;

What size group were you thinking of getting together?  Friday night's not ideal but might be interested.

I don't know anyone off here, just going as a lone person and see how it goes...

Have they told you how long the session would be for? and what is usually covered in these sessions?

OK though if you feel the urge to share the costs for some repeat sessions I'm sure there would be lots of interest here in having a small group along.  I know I'd love a bit of proper coaching before club nets get going next year.

I haven't actually been to these before, strangely (seeing how local I am to The Oval!) People tell me there is a big mix of abilities and some of the better players have voiced frustration when they are put in a net with the lesser bowlers, but apparently the coaching part of it is very good.  I like that you don't need to commit to all of them and can just turn up whenever you like, so I may try to come to a few this year.

If we want to sort something outside of the coaching just for ourselves, I reckon 6 people for a batting and bowling net or 3-4 people for a net with a bowling machine.

I'd be up for that, and I'm sure we could advise each other on where we are going wrong.
