Joe Root leaving GM
« on: September 11, 2015, 08:55:29 AM »

Spotted on Twitter a few minutes ago

http://www.gm-cricket.com/community/news/2015/9/11/gunn-moore-releases-joe-root.aspx

I'm shocked...might start a book on who he moves too. New Balance or Spartan perhaps?

GN could of possibly nabbed him as well, but let's be honest, he could name his price and Spartan & NB aren't short of a few quid

Does this mean there's going to be a big reduction in price on Joe Root players editions to shift old stock??  :D

I reckon new balance and the bats will be made by GM or B3 still....

this is a bit sad I reckon...

yes yes yes it's a commercial game these days but whether it's GM or Warsop or anyone else British it would be nice to think Root does something to boost a UK industry

as they said they have sponsored him since 13.

naïve viewpoint?

Didn't we have a thread on nb a the a few weeks ago which mentioned this? I got ridiculed for suggesting it.

Will be nb or Spartan. Look forward to see what specials there is.

Not sure if any truth in this, but apparently the relationship has been sour since his GM lid broke, and Root wanted to wear a masuri.

Well as other people have said, it's all UK industry, they don't all say "since in 1885" or whatever and some actively claim to be Australian or part of new balance or adidas or some huge technological machine capable of breaking new ground in bat making technology, but actually all cricket bats are made in a shed in nottingham, fact.

You're right about the big sports brands having a bigger budget. The traditional brands may have a long term issue as NB, Adidas, Nike and Puma chuck money at the biggest stars. GM do seem to have fewer and fewer international players, Slaz have all but disappeared.

England's recent new players:
Roy, Willey - Adidas
Ballance, Wood, Stokes - NB

I would perhaps add Puma to the list of options for Root, but only because he uses their shoes. But, if NB are going to be England's kit suppliers, then this would be my guess. Otherwise, Adidas, who have a large swathe of young county players in their stable.

Joe Root to Warsop would be an absolutel coup ha!

with Clarke retiring Spartan seem light on test stars with the bat and New Balance seem to be punting for Smith as their poster boy so out of those two Spartan would be my bet

Since Michael Clarke retiring Spartan need another big test player on their books to help flog gear, on another note where does Spartan get there money from?

I thought Adidas were moving slowly away from cricket, what with NB taking on the kit suppliers deal. Could be wrong though, you hear all sorts on the grapevine.

Puma may actually be a good shout, didn't think about them either.

There was rumors of him going to NB floating around a while ago, my money's on New Balance with B3 making his bats. Just my opinion though.

Shows how little loyalty there is when money starts getting thrown about - to be sponsored by a company since you're 11, using the same kit taking you all the way from a youngster to being world number 1, to then drop them for a bit of cash is very poor IMHO, would've expected better.

Money talks!
