Does anyone else think the entrance of the big sportswear companies-and their attendant budgets- to the cricket market is detrimental in terms of kit design?  In terms of design NB and Adidas have brought out some nice looking kit with some pretty stickers but it does not seem to be worth their while, for example, to produce anything more exciting than the mid-middled, slightly concaved safe option.

Bats -they're just ordering them in, purely from a selling point of view so never likely to be producing unusual shapes etc, I can't see an non-cricket company deciding to set up their own bat manufacturing operation from scratch. Big companies coming in to cricket have produced some seriously nice softs and shoes though.

Edit - in fairness, Puma has actually done some different things with bats, and Adidas put out Pellaras with quite different spine shaping for at least one season. Also the newest NBs are duckbills - even if that's hardly an innovation, it's a lot better than Kookaburra offered for a lot of years!

Joe Root is moving to New Balance. I know it hasn't been realised in the press yet but my friend who i play with, his dad works for New Balance and has already told me that Joe Root is moving to New Balance. Joe Root leaving GM was confirmed months ago but has only just been realised today.

Who would've thunk that a little known shoe company from my home town would one day sponsor a prospective England captain.  :D

That new Balance are going big this season a few ranges of kit
Probably not as much as grays but enough that is for sure

You would expect it to be NB... Especially as the company that makes pro bats for NB basically set up the production processes at GM.

A GM bat but being paid double the amount of money to use it? We would all be doing that if we were him!

Steve smith with slazenger was a joke that will never be a  test cricketer.
Steve smith is no1 in the world with new balance.
Just saying.

They sponsored an actual England captain way back in the 1980s.

I wonder if any of the internationals these days are actually superstitious about their bats-or to tjem it doesnt matter which company they use-its purely financial.
A short scan of the memory i can only think of one current player using the same brand for years: A.Cook.
Anyone think of any others?

A lot of the Aussies who start out with Kooks seem to stay pretty loyal, Ponting et al.

He's no. 1 again according to the new rankings.

Sad to see big names with long histories leaving GM over the last few years.
