I think seniorplayer pointed out on another post.....i'd be a bit worried the spinners get to Bairstow, he has a fault playing across the line.last time in UAE lbw's were off the scale.

It don't matter of course if your launching them into the stands but technical faults have shown up over the years, nowt different in todays game....

again...hope i'm wrong. England may opt for Taylor in the middle anyway.... :)

I think Bairstow is the most in danger of losing his spot in the conditions but they'll keep to the ashes winning side I suspect. Being a good player of spin is vital, so taylor might get the nod if it's a like for like swap or alternatively Hales if Ali get's shuffled again.

Anyone got Mr Lyth's number? They forgot to put him in the squad!

Feel a bit sorry for Lyth, but his results had it coming really. He was given his deserved shot, but came up short this time. I'm sure he'll get a load back in County Cricket and be possibly back again at some point.

I'm gutted Ballance hasn't been brought back in the squad. Has an international average of 47+ and averaged only 2 runs less per innings than Ian Bell against the Aussies.

Still not sure on Hales, but I say give him a shot and see if he sinks or swims.

It's about time Rashid was given a run as the second spinner. Some say he bowls too many loose deliveries but you only get better by playing against better opponents.

I would have taken Hales for the shorter formats and taken Lyth for the longer format!
Lyth has been on great form at County level and think he deserves a slightly longer go of it! Hales didn't look good against the Aussies and yet they seem willing to give him a shot?

Unless he is going more for "experience" and Ali or Root might open. Ansari even?

Cook
Ansari
Bell
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Ali
Buttler
Rashid
Broad
Anderson

3 seamers, 4 spinners...??

Just played away from his body again and nicked yet another half volley to slip, first ball of the innings!

No stokes?

If he's that in need of being rested in the odi and t20 games (8 days of playing) it's stupid to put him in the test side (15 days of playing) isn't it?

Especially as taking him out for moeen answers how to get Rashid and Ali into the 11.

Forgot Root isn't a bad spinner. Handy when Ali goes through one of his dodgy spells and needs taking off.

Ok - maybe his form dipped at the wrong time.

His form has been good since the end of the Ashes. You can forgive him for being a little off in the concentration stakes today, surely?

Why do so many people seem to think we need 6 bowlers? Don't see it even being realistic to use that many properly, plus if England were seriously planning on using 3 spinners they would have taken a 4th as backup. Not hard to get Ali and Rashid in the same side - take a seamer out. If we need two spinners, we obviously don't need 4 seamers at the same time. Interesting that there's 5 quicks in the squad though.

Would be amazed if the team is much different from:
Cook
Hales
Bell
Root
Taylor/Bairstow (I'd pick Titch)
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Rashid
Broad
Anderson

Its a bit of a confused squad for me - Lyth, whilst I would have kept him, can have few complaints but Hales is not the man to replace him.  I'm a bit surprised about Ballance - his technique is perfect for those pitches.

What would I do?  Well, after many permutations of the squad I think it'd be:

Cook
Ali
Bell
Root
Taylor
Bairstow (w)
Stokes
Rashid
Wood/Plunkett
Broad
Anderson

Looks like a fair enough 3 squads to me. Not sure why Lewis Gregory & Chris Jordan are in the Spin & Batting Group  ???
