Whatever happened to Albion (C&D)?
« on: September 16, 2015, 02:21:16 PM »

I remember-not all that long ago-the two market leaders in the manufacture of premium helmets for international players were Masuri and Albion C&D.  Indeed, for almost a decade the choice(by financial agreement)of the Australian top order was exclusively Albion.  Yet, now I cannot think of one internationalist who still wears one nor any retailers that still stock them.  Obviously things have moved on, designs have changed, and new competitors have entered the market but I do not understand why Albion have dropped off the radar as much as they have done.  Why have Albion, for example, not redesigned or launched a new helmet to conform to the new British, New Zealand and Australian standards as other brands have done?

their old style of lids passed the new test as I understand it.

I am sure they will have some news soon too.

Was that both styles or just the plastic ones?
I have an ultimate 98 at the moment and the peak is rather thin, whereas the plastic ones I've owned had a more sturdy feeling peak from memory.
As much as I love my Albion, I have opted for a new Masuri (with a stem guard) for next season. Better safe than sorry and all...

not the plastic ones

I'm surprised but not at the same time.

A few years back (playing colts cricket still!) we were having a winter net at the Rose Bowl.
One of the seamers bowled one that hit one of the shorter players on the head.
Straight between grille and peak of a plastic Albion, bloody nose and 2 black eyes.

I always put it down to the colts size ball being used and the gap between the grille and peak being large enough to park a bus in. Looking back maybe there was more to it than that...
