Surprised they didn't give Willey an incremental contract.
Is it done purely on "points" from playing and no common sense used?

Interesting that Gary Ballance is still on an incremental contract, they clearly still see a future for him in that case?

I was thinking that but then surely Lyth would be centrally contracted for playing all the NZ/AUS tests?

I suppose it's halfy half, on the basis that if you've totted up enough points then your probably going to feature anyway, whereas Lyth has got the points but will not feature (no plan to at least)

The rest of the short form players like Willey generally end up getting an incremental one soon after anyway through playing the matches.

You wouldnt go hungry on a central contact....circa £700k retainer, £12k per test match, £5k per ODI and £2.5k for a T20!

That retainer is actually quite a bit more than I thought it would be! So someone like Root, Stokes or Buttler playing all 3 formats could expect to take home £800k+ a year before sponsorships, not too shabby.

Yeah shows the rewards you get for being at the top of the game.

You can see why they don't really need to go and play IPL/BBL cricket if your centrally contracted.

5 years of being a centrally contracted England player and you wouldnt need to work again!

You can look into incremental as much as you want. But pretty sure there more based on appearances than anything else(so many appearances in a calendar year auto makes you on incremental)


I'm not sure counties pay as much, so am I right in presuming ballance bad back foot techniques has cost him atleast half a million quid from one year to the next?

I would think so, average county salary likely to be £50k per year and £18k for a academy player.

If you get a couple of tests under your belt and a few ODI's your upto £100k a year for playing a bit of bat and ball.

Im off to practice in the garden a bit more as a left arm spinner :D
