GM Refurb
« on: September 23, 2015, 05:03:45 PM »

So I wanted to get my 2006 GM Hero 808 cleaned up and refurbished, so I contacted GM who said I had to send the bat to GM in Nottingham along with a 40GBP cheque (who uses cheques these days) which would pay for the work return postage. So I sent the bat in the post (which I had to pay for) on Monday 6th September for it to return to me today on the 23rd on September. Bellow are some pictures I've taken of the bat post-refurb, I sadly didn't take any before I sent it away :( . I specifically asked for the Aura stickers as I actually like the yellow and now with the 2016 range out it's become a one year wonder for GM making it even more rare haha Overall I'm thoroughly impressed with the work, here is a list of things that have been done to it;
  • Old stickers removed and new ones put on
  • Scuff sheet removed and new one put on
  • Whole bat has been sanded until the wood is white again
  • Wood has been polished to give a smooth finish
  • Toe guard has been removed and new one put on
  • Matching grip has also been applied

The bat didn't have any major damage so the refurb process would have been fairly straight forward I'd assume. Again I'm delighted with the work that has been done although personally I think 40GBP is a little bit pricey to get new stickers on your bat every year but since as it was bought nearly 10 years ago I thought it deserved some TLC and a bit of a spruce up ready for 2016. I did research this before sending it away but no one had posted pics or written anything about the process until now, hopefully It'll help anyone else wanting to send their bats to GM.

Here are some of the pics I've taken, enjoy :)

That's a proper cricket bat profile. Very nice and the new stickers make it look a million bucks. Worth the money I reckon.

I'll get the ruler out tonight but it's not big specs (maybe 25mm edges) however the whole bat is the same right through with no swell meaning it pings of any part, also the bow in it is crazy for and English bat made in 2006 unless anyone can show me anything more extreme from around that time.

Wow! What a fantastic job they did on the bat. I still wish they would bring back the Icon from a few years ago (when it was first introduced).

Maybe the extra £5 has something to do with the "small repair work" comment?
