I don't know , perhaps it's rose coloured specs but I can't help thinking had things gone right he would be playing now and already have played 100 tests.....

Yes....perhaps not the multi dimensional modern cricketer but bowlers are primarily there to get wickets not runs. And wickets win test matches...

Of all the recent players he is the one you just hope gets a county and becomes a pro cricketer again.

One of my favs.. got really good players of spin out. To out-spin India in India  (with swann) was one of the great stories of modern day test history.

He is playing for his old team in club cricket near me and also played against my old club for Lashings a few weeks back.

He isn't good enough to play premier league cricket anymore let alone International. He has an absolutely shocking attitude too!

Shame to hear that to be honest, comes across as a likeable guy. I watched the programme on Sky just now.

Have to say much as he was a fans favourite, Nasser is spot on in the film, improving your game ultimately is down to yourself, others can advise and help and gawd knows some of us need a bit of help now and again, but it's down to you to improve-ameteurs or pro same applies.

Fletcher if I recall correctly wanted 2 out of 3 for his players. Not all 3 but batting and fielding, etc, etc.

If you look at players now, some of our guys do 3 out of 3. Chris woakes maybe a good example.

Monty reckons his downward spiral started  when he was listening to  others  who were telling him to do this and that with the ball  detracting from what he was  good at.

A friend of mine plays Minor Counties with Monty and he's still as much as a character now!

Apparently one of his games was over very quickly, and was due to meet up with the lads at a hotel an hour away from where he was playing after the game. He arrives 8 hours later at midnight. Everyone is having a drink in the bar, and they ask him if it went the distance as he was so late, and he said "No, bowled for 70 odd and they got them in 10".
"Where did you go then?" "Came straight here" "What, that took 8 hours?" "Yeh" "Cant of, did you go the wrong way?" "Dunno really just drove here"

Apparently he was then due to bat 10/11 in the game, and after the 5th wicket fell, he walked out padded up, with everyone confused as to what he was doing. He lasted a few balls looking sketchy before nicking one behind and walking off. They asked what was going on and he just went "dunno just backed myself"

nasser made a comment about how monty would sit down and ask him in great detail about field placings, tactics and for loads of other advice but he always felt monty wasnt actually that interested in the answer and it was going in one ear and out the other

that was incredibly telling and gives you an idea of what he is like

that being said someone like fletcher seemed like the wrost possible leader/coach for monty and if given the chance to play with a bit more freedom and develop his bowling talent in a more supportive enviroment he could have had a better test career
