This is just another way of keeping his name in the news I guess...

When will everyone give up on KP, his international career is over and he has a limited shelf life as a hit and giggle specialist. Maybe he'd be better off keeping his mouth shut and just playing cricket, but it seems he just can't help himself when it comes to keeping his name relevant.

Ahhh come on guys, I thought that was quite strong from KP - takes give a response to questions like that after almost two years of being publicly pissed off about it. A large amount of the cricketing public have come to exactly the same conclusions, and I don't see how you can get down on him for saying that Strauss has done a good job. If England had been smashed in the Ashes and were crying out for senior players I don't think we'd see similar words from Strauss!

KP's job is, like Michael Vaughan, to stay in the news and promote stuff.
To say he is a complete tool isn't fair.
I still think England would have benefited from him in this ashes.

Would be hilarious if he tries to play for SA from next summer. It won't be long before that is mentioned

The ECB made a right old hash of the KP situation, caught out with confused messages and they were always going to lose the PR battle with someone so media savvy as KP.
He played some great innings for England but every player has their shelf life and just look at the one-day team and the young guys thru now, some of them will be in the test side i'm sure.

Strauss got pelted at the time he left KP out and his tory boy image is a fun for the tabloids to make fun of but however badly the situation was handled the right decision was made to leave him out and bring on younger players.

As a passionate England fan i'll remember a few breathtaking innings over the years but it's funny how on these boards people refer to him as 'a match winner' 'star player'

I'll argue Greame Swann did more for England to win matches in the period.

He was a fantastic player for England who added a touch of panache to the middle order anything else is irrelevant imho.

I still think the question at this moment in time is who'd you have at 3 between Bell and Pietersen. No brainer, right? Unless they plan on moving Root up again, which to be honest might be a good idea...

To be fair that's the first words that don't make him sound like an idiot that he's uttered since 2012. He was asked a question and he gave a solid answer. Should he have continued spouting on about how he should be playing for England? At least he's eating his humble pie.

Might as well end the discussion now. WalkingWicket has got it completely spot on.

England's biggest achievements of the past 10 years: Ashes 2005, World T20, Ashes in Australia, India away test win. KP played outrageous and key innings in all of them. Particularly, Pietersen almost always turned up and produced his best in the big games/series - far more than any other England player of the era. Those runs in the big games, at speed, were why he was a matchwinner and star player. Not sure we'll see another English test batsman as enjoyable to watch for some time, sadly.

Hopefully this will be an end of it all and he can be remembered as a legendary batsman now!

KP stated its absolutely find at the moment what would he have said if England had failed to win the Ashes anyway reflecting on how the Ashes and the one dayers went and England's batting failures Kp had proved his form and could have done a better job than some who were selected

The report says to was speaking at a sports industry breakfast, I doubt keeping his mouth shut was really an option. I don't see he has done much wrong, he plies his trade around the world yet is ridiculed for hit and giggles, if he was asked to play a test in outer mongolia tomorrow I would put my mortgage on he would play. If more English players had his approach we may be a consistantly better performing cricket nation.

That'd be great! He might want a trip to the laser tattoo removal place. Or maybe he could just cover it up with a Protea?
