And as has already been said, Rashid played a rash shot and should have known better!!
But need to look at others who are not performing! Buttler and Stokes are doing badly.
And indeed we need to look at the selectors for not playing the right people!

Get Buttler out of the side to find form. He will be back!
Stokes is the 4th seamer and a handy bat on his day. A poor man's Flintoff almost,  and can produce magic from nowhere at times. I'd keep him in for now.
As for the selectors playing the wrong people, Get a proper opener in and Ali back down the order where he's done well.

I'm guessing you only watched the last ball of the game, or are you just ignoring the rest of Rashid's innings?

Like i said earlier it was one rush of something to the head. It just so happens that said rush cost England the game.
Is it entirely his fault? No
Should he have kown better? Yes

But it only cost England the game because he'd done so well. If he'd done that 5th ball then we'd have all forgotten about it now and said England were awful in one session and that'd be it. As it is you're effectively attacking the poor lad for doing so well.

I don't think he's a particularly good bowler, but he's done bloody well there.

Precisely! If selectors had of played a proper opening then I am pretty sure that Hales would have managed more than 2 runs in 2 innings!!
And Ali would have been stronger batting at 7 than Buttler!! Obviously no guarantee but Hales has proved that he can open at International level in shorter format so looks a better bet. And Ali has already proved he is a more confident batsman down the order.
And I would agree that Stokes needs to keep his place.
So what's the betting that they make no changes!!  >:(

Just put yourself in his shoes..you just see a ripping leggie. You're trying to guess what's next. You see a fullish ball...you should leave it, right? But what if it's a wrong one? "Safer" to drive it. Then it dips slightly...just enough to get scooped to cover.

It is ridiculous to blame Adil ...just go through the above in your head, and it's not that bizarre that he did what he did.

Attacking him for doing well? I don't think so.

Yes he did well, but having done all the hard work I feel he should've had more sense than that. Some can clearly see the logic in what he did, but to my mind it was a moment of madness that's taken the shine off a very good innings.

I'm not a paid professional, I've never scored a first class hundred, and I'm certain I'll never plays a test match.
.

And Adil is a number 8 batsman, in his second ever test!!
His job is to bowl, not bat.

You do know that they tend to spend little time with the bowlers coaching them to bat? If the bowlers want to improve they have to buddy up with a batsmen and learn from them.

Apparently Kp spent hours on end with Finn when he was in the squad

For all the talk of yasir shah being "overrated", most of his wickets this game were top notch. As a spinner myself I particularly enjoyed:

1. Setting up JB with some wide leggies in the first innings, followed by one that turns less to trap him lbw (warne used this set up a lot)
2. The googly in the 2nd innings to get JB
3. Butler in 2nd innings with a perfect leggie

Not too shabby for a chap playing his 11th game

The Googly to get bairstow in the second innings was very good, I thought he gave Pakistan a much better feel to their attack with him in the side

The bits I saw of him were ok. Better control than Rashid but didn't look like knocking over Rashid and Wood in the second innings. Certainly not on the Warne scale of frightening turn, more the Kumble persistence scale. Good spinner yes but England shouldn't worry about him as much as Riaz with the reversing ball. That's hurt us in this test.

Compton
Cook
Bell
Root
Taylor
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Broad
Wood
Anderson

Bell keeps his place because there is no one else and I'd keep root where he's been good. Taylor in for a year or so St 5 to bed in. Stokes at six simply because we have to accommodate others further down, mother wise I'd have him at 7/8. Compton because we need stability at the top, not someone to slog. If you must bring hales in, start him at 5/6 to learn how to play test cricket first.

Who in county cricket averages 45+ over the last two years and what position did they play?

Compton being treated very unfairly in my view. All because of one supposed "argument"?

/Bairstow played all round it... If not fixed, this will stop him playing too many tests.
