As long as you dont smash it with it there is no reason why you cant use a hammer like that - can be good especially for the edges and toe......plus it knocks in the bat quicker. This would be very similar to using a lignum vitae mallet (which is much much denser and harder than your average wooden mallet)

Hmmm.. Surely 1 hit two many and the bat will crack?

it will only crack if you hit it too hard. the bats not just going to crack because youve hit it once more than it needs.

I had heard that Tim at NEwbery used to knock in the bats in a similar way.......I have knocked in a bat like that, but with a slightly bigger hammer and it works if done carefully. Took me 30 minutes to knock-in the bat and it played really well.

Only con is that you may get some very circular marks, but these can be made to disappear by rubbing the bat against the round edge on a bath tub or a ceramic wash basin......

Think Bill at Fusion did it on one of my old bats also.

Can I see a pic of your bat please? Because I might use this technique, but I'm a bit skeptical.

Do not have that bat with me know as I did it last season... but it works just be a bit patient and use common sense afer the first few knocks in understanding with what intensity to hit the hammer. Intensity to knock the middle will be less than that on the edges and toe...

best using a cobblers hammer as it a rounded head, bit dodgy using a flat headed hammer but then again if sehwag cracks it,it doesn't really matter to him

Just guess I'm pleased to see the bat in use by the World's No.1 batsman, even if it is only hitting a few balls in nets  :P
